    Sportec lower air vent mod

I saw that the Sportec RS600 as well as their intercooler kit come with these lower engine shield vents. I figured I could replicate them for a lot less money, like $8.00. All it took was some 1"x1" angle aluminum, and some 3/16" rivets. First layout a pattern (I used 3/4" masking tape).

Next cut out the openings (I used a pneumatic mini sawzall, but a keyhole saw would work), and then clean up your cuts with a file.

Then cut the aluminum angle stock to fit the openings, mark your holes, drill, then rivet them in place.

I also wanted to redo those rubber brake cooling dams that were scraped off of my lower shield, so I sacrificed an Impala front air dam that I found at work. It's a heavy plastic rather than the rubber that they were originally made of.

    And done.

    Awesome! Great work.
Maybe I should do that too. I can already feel the engine running hotter as the weather gets warmer.

Well, it is part of the Sportec RS600 package, and honestly I don't know the extent of the benefits for this modification, but for $8.00 I figured I could afford to be wrong. The perceived benefits would in my simple mind be:
Cool air being rushed over the entire engine and exiting through the rear of the engine compartment that hasn't already passed through the radiator. This should help to cool the turbo's off?
Air coming through these vents would cause suction behind the radiator causing better airflow through the coolers.
    Here's a pic I found from Sportec's original RS600 promotional car.

^That is darn near identical. Please let us know if there's any improvement over the stock setup.

looks great!!! but with all the stuff that gets kicked up, i dont like that the belt is exposed right there... might be more practical for track use only??? but like i said, good job! it really does look great!

20 degree reduction in oil temps. I'm not worried about debris, this vent allows air to exit, not enter.

Wow, 20 degree drop in oil temp is quite significant.
This will be my next mod. Any tips?
