I can't get the car to recognize my new RNS-E w/Vag-Com

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a RNS-E from Kuko on eBay and have installed it successfully. I have coded the DIS successfully, but when I try to access either 56-Radio, or 37-Navigation using a Vag-Com to code the specifics, I get a "channel not found error" (I can't remember exactly what it says, but it's something similar to that)

Here's what I had OEM: B7 S4 Avant with Bose Symphony, BT and Sirius.

    Here's what I have now:
    • RNS-E (SW:550, HW: H73, Map:8P0919884-Q-NAR)
    • BT: works on DIS and MFSW, but RNS-E says "no phone installed"
    • Sirius: works on RNS-E
    • RVC: I can't access the RNS-E, so can't code it to Lambo mode, etc... thus it currently only works in TV mode

I have no idea why I can't do this, and have spent many hours researching here and audiforums.us. Here are some hypothetical possible causes (but now I'm guessing):
    • Euro SW in a US car- do I need to reflash the RNS-E to get my car to recognize it?
    • My installer did NOT use the new wiring harness that kuko provided, instead claiming that the one already in the car with the OEM symphony mated perfectly, is this the problem?

So far I've vag-com'd a few other things successfully:
    • Front signals/parking lights off unless activated with turn signal
    • Seatbelt chime off
    • RNS-E to DIS

What am I missing? I'm sure it's something simple...!? Thanks in advance!

You had Symphony II+ then I would assume, with a mating quadlock connector? Symphony II+ is the only one with a connector that would match the RNS-e.

If so, there are two wires you need to switch in the harness in your car to get it to communicate correctly. Very simple fix. Symphony II+ communicates via K-line, not CAN.

There is a write up with pictures on euroaddiction.net. It will definitely solve your problem. http://www.euroaddiction.net/forum/showthread.php?t=581

Is vag-com genuine or an Ebay version?

If you can't access 56 or 37 and you have a genuine Vag-Com then it sound like your K-line, CAN + or CAN - is not connected. If the RNS-E info comes up on your center DIS then I the CAN +/- lines are probably ok and it probably is the K line. The RNS-E reads/codes/scans through the K line and not the CAN bus. Also . . . I have heard of people having too many things on their single K line . . . you shouldn't have that problem though as I have more attached then you do and it works fine. Make sure you have the RIGHT K line attached as well . . . since you have a B7 S4 you might have two. I believe that Audi switched to dual K lines in some B6's and all B7/B8's . . . so a B6 A4 might not have a dual line but the B7 S4 should. I am not really sure about this so take that with a grain of salt. Really though, if it's the K line going to the stereo it should be K1 so this should be a mute point anyways. Just make sure it's on the correct RNS-E pin.

Check the pins on the OEM harness and make they match up with the RNS-E pins. The pin layout of the RNS-E in on the top of the unit . . . or GIS (google image search) for one. You can find your OEM pin layout doing a search too.

uuugh, what a nightmare (for a noob like me). I was at the stereo shop yesterday (and this is the last time I will ever go there) with these instructions, and we moved:
    • B5 to B7
    • C7 to B5

I didn't have a Vag-Com with me, and I haven't checked it yet, so I have no idea if we did it right. I'll check it when I have time, which probably won't be until next week. Now that I'm home, I can compare the wiring diagram on top of my SII+ to see what else needs to be modified (if anything).

We did screw something up though since now my BT volume (currently only controllable through my steering wheel) doesn't go high enough. I guess it's possible that based on moving the wires, this control is somehow connected through the RNS-E, and since the RNS-E has not been properly coded yet it isn't functioning correctly.

    I will:
    • Compare the 2 wiring diagrams to figure out what else is different
    • Code my RNS-E if possible
    • Report back

It could have the do with that fact that the Bose pin is now properly grounded and your RNS-e internal amp is no longer working. Not sure though.

Then maybe if you code it for Bose you'll get some volume back.

But since I have aftermarket amps and speakers, I don't want to code it Bose do I? I want a flat signal...

Im not sure about the aftermarket amp/ speaker set up, but I know all the bose pin does is disable the RNS-e internal amp when it is properly grounded. I don't know what they coding will do.

Ask about that specific question on this forum http://audiforum.us/rns-e/ . they are experts on the RNS-e system there.

By the way, did the pin switching enable the RNS-e to see your phone??

Sorry but is this write up still available? I just got an EU unit from kuko too and want to install it in my A3 but don't really know how to begin since local shops keep telling me there's no point if my car didn't come with factory nav. I had Concert II+ but then swapped it for a Pioneer F90BT. I have discs all ready to go and am having a tough time finding up to date info on audiforum.us and can't tell what "*******" is supposed to mean in the link mentioned above. TIA for any help!!

http://audiforum.us/rns-e/13298-diy-...-ii-rns-e.html U have to remove aftermarket harness from your Pioneer unit first, I hope your installer did not just cut the wires, but used a proper harness
