About a year ago I was testing some different resins to try and find something that was easier to work with. I talked to my supplier and he suggested a particular brand. It was supposed hold up against the heat, but as you will soon see, it did not. I don't know why, but they went from smooth, to wavy in a matter of months under the Arizona sun.
I was going to try and rip off all the carbon fiber and scrap it, but it seemed like kind of a waste. I figured maybe someone would want this as a project to see if they could make it nice again. I'll give it to you for free if you provide me with your current wood trim. You'll pay for shipping your set to me, I'll pay for shipping of the carbon fiber set to you.
If you want this set, send me an email stating that you have read all of this post, that you have a wood set to trade, your address, and how soon you can send me your wood set.
The good:
1) The fiber looks great. Its real 11oz 2x2 twill carbon fiber. Very tight and straight weave.
2) Set fits great.
3) The waviness is only noticeable at certain angles and in certain lights.
4) Set has potential to be really nice. You could probably sand it down again smooth now that its more solid and re-clearcoat it. I would probably clearcoat it with a matte finish, it will hide a lot of the problem areas.
The bad:
1) I really wouldn't recommend not doing anything to this set. At the bare minimum it should probably be clearcoated again. It needs a decent amount of work to get it to be nice.
2) Some pieces are worse than others. It seems that the pieces like the shifter that got the most sun, have the most waves and poor finish.
3) I'm not going to hold your hand on how to finish these. Please only take on this project if you know what you're doing or are able to figure things out on your own.
4) I only want a wood set in trade.
5) No "refunds." Please view all of the pictures and be sure that you are ready to take on this project. I really don't want to have anyone pissed at me in a month because they couldn't make this set nice again (or didn't want to put in the work to make it nice again).
I think thats everything. If you're interested in this little project shoot me an email. Do not post "I'll take it." Do not PM me. Please email me with the information I requested.
Pictures:
A little closer and you can see the waves better

When its not in direct light, you can't see the waves so much

Up close of the waves on the dash piece

More waves

The shifter is the worst off

Upclose of the nice weave and the waves

You can see the waves good here, the light line should be straight
