who has installed an 034 street density transmission mount? plate or no plate?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
In the process of putting one in and noticed a height difference between the mount they sent and my OEM mount. Here are the two shown with the 034 street density mount on the left. I'm not sure if I should reuse the circular metal plate which sits between the mount and bracket.

I found this DIY on AG which shows the install of a track density which already includes a plate to keep the overall heights the same. Of course this DIY says to not reuse the plate, however the track density already includes one.

So I'm assuming for the street density mount you do reuse that plate? Or maybe I received a different mount?

    Thanks

Its possible since there are at least three different transmissions for the B6 (early 6 speed, 5 speed, late 6 speed) that the mounts are setup a little different as well. Does the OEM setup look familiar to anyone else? I just realized I think I put the plate back on the OEM setup such that the contact surfaces are reversed, but the point is still the same. As shown the new 034 mount would cause the trans to sit a bit lower. Just trying to get some confirmation.

I am pretty sure I did exactly what Jeff did. I recall buying new bolts per his recommendation.

I have the street density engine and transmission mounts.

I might be taking the trans out of my car this weekend so I can check then for you. If not, it'll be next weekend or later this month.

Just while we're on the subject, how do you find the mount Doug. Vibration noise?

My transmission has developed a noticeable amount of movement over the last 2 weeks. Obviously its down to the extra power.

Im looking to upgrade the mount but I dont want to have any more cabin vibration or noise. This is after all my family mobile too.

Interesting, but the track density mount has an additional metal plate already (can be seen on the AG link) that my street mount did not come with. Looks like I should probably swap the plate over and will just try that tonight unless I hear back from someone else who remembers.

Well, I was going by whatever I could remember. I installed it two years ago and with the work I have done to my car in those two years I can't remember a detail like the transmission mount. If I pull my trans this weekend I'll snap some photos and email them to you.

I did not use the plate, I installed mine just like Jeff did in the AG writeup except that I used the studs and bolt that 034 included.

Vibration is non-existent. I initially drove around for a few thousand miles with the 034 street density motor and trans mount, and APR snub and there was some depending on the temperature outside. Last weekend I had the front of the car on jackstands, loosened the trans, motor and snub mounts, had my housemate sit in the car and basically rev it to 2500 rpm while I tightened the trans, then motor, then snub. 100% vibration free, I honestly can't even tell the car is running when idling.

Alright, looks like I'll just install it as pictured and tighten the nuts while the engine is idling.

Thanks for that. This is exactly the info I was looking for.

    Doug,

How do you like the vibration level at idle with the street density? I'm not sure if my age is just catching up to me, but I'm starting to want a little less vibration at idle. Your thoughts?

Ah, this might mean its specific for my early 6-speed trans (01E) and makes sense why other people haven't reported it as an issue. Thanks.

I don't notice anything. I have street density at the motor and trans and APR snub mount. Key is in the installation, as Jon mentioned in post #9.

Only thing I notice is increased noise transmitted through the shifter when I touch it. Why? I have full JHM shifter, shift linkage and bushing kit. The increased noise is peanuts compared to the rock solid shifting.

I have track density tranny and street density motors with APR snub and have no vibrations. I can't remember about the plate as it's been almost 2 years since install. As Jon mentioned, key is to loosen everything and get the engine to center via idle and a few revs before tightening everything back up.

Can anyone tell me what was included in the Street Density Trans Mount package?

    I think I might be missing some items. I have a 2004 1.8T 6speed.

    I received...

    1 spacer/shim
    2 bolt
    2 washers
    2 nuts
    1 Trans mount

I heard that I am supposed to get the GREY OEM rubber dust cover?

My kit came this way also, can anyone shed some light on how I use the spacer? Want to make sure I know what I am doing before I tear it apart. Does the spacer just go on the bottom facing the ground and do you just reuse the stock center bolt? Thanks for your help!

You guys figure this all out? I just installed mine as well, but the guy that I got it from just gave me two nuts as the mounting kit so I went out and bought a centre bolt and am using the OE studs. I've got an 03 with a 5spd, albeit a 2.8 5spd, but I pretend it's the original 1.8 anyway. So what am I missing, and do I really need the extra spacer and stuff? I'm going to have to take it off and readjust this weekend, I've got clunking actually when accelerating so I think something's up, probably my fault but have tpo take it all apart again anyway
