hey guys, does anyone know what is the stock size of the avant non-bose sub in the driver side rear cargo panel? also, is there anyone out there that has taken the panel out without braking anything? What would be the right way to do and the order to do it in? I have tried to take it out already by the rear brake light assembly and already borke a plastic tab that houses a metal clip that clips in to the metal very pissed off about that. Any links and directions woudl be appreciated.

And yes I have searched and have only found 2 forums that talk exaclty about this subject, and both come out unanswered, one that started in 2005 and another that started in 2007

I don't own one, but here are the instructions I gathered from the bentley repair manual:

Avant: Left Side Cargo Area Side Trim, Removing

    - Remove Side Panel (Seems to be referring to the rear seat bolster on that side)
    - For above step, remove back seat (lower), fold down backrest, detach bracket at bottom of bolster, push back and slide up.
    - Remove Tailgate Seal from the "loading edge" and side panel
    - Remove Loading Edge (2 bolts near the latch)
    - Lift front edge of seat-belt cover and unclip
    - Lift cover for "rear backrest latch"
    - Remove cap
    - Dissasemble "tie-downs" (rear bracket: 2 bolts, front bracket- for Frontrak: 2 philips+1 hex, front bracket-for Quattro: 4 philips) <- Interesting
    - Remove 3 bolts from the side trim, across the top. The front-most looks to be sort-of under the leading edge of the plastic.
    - Unclip side trim and pull "up and over" the belt guide and latch bracket

    Avant: Bass Speaker, Removing

    - Remove CD Changer, if equipped..
    - Remove left side area cargo trim (see above)
    - Disconnect harness connector for bass speaker
    - Remove bass speaker (bolt count and location are not specified. Probably obvious)

man walky talky, your the man....by the way that bentley CD you have, didi you get it from ECS or you got it from ross tech or something? i notice ECS sells the cd for $70 or somewhere along those lines are they the same?

Also, im assuming to remove the passenger side rear panel is the same order? Im looking to install a remote start alarm and according to some online sources, teh factory alrm module is housed "passenger side trunk lower trunk" area, i know this is talking about the sedan, but im assuming it might be teh same for the avant. thanks in advance bro.

    Trunk Trim removale...a simpler version

Hello all, I just wanted to update my thread here for my other avant owners that wish to deal with their weak stock sub or just need to get into this area. I woudl first like to thank walky talky for jump starting this little project of mine.....but must point out that the instruction provided were not entirely accurate. Here is a break down of the steps I did to remove the trunk trim. These instruction applies to either side:

    1) Slightly remove the tail gate seal from the bottom plastic latch trim piece and the side of the trunk trim piece you wish to remove.

    2) Remove the bottom latch plastic trim. This is held down by 2 phillips screws on both left and right sides, and retaining clips. To remove, pull up and away from you the same time, like in a 45 degree angle from the floor.

    3) Remove the floor carpet. To get it out, you will have to remove 4 phillips screws, 2 on each side under the tie down latches close to the seat backs.

    4) In the first image posted here by walky, you will notice 3 arrows, the first 2 are phillips screws you will have to remove as well. The third is the striker bolt for the rear seats. To remove this bolt, you will need a DEEP 17mm deepsocket.

    5) At the bottom left of teh trim (if removeing the driver side) when looking straight at it, you will notice another tie down latch, this one will also need to be removed. This one, on the other hand, has 2.5" phillips screws, hence deserving its own step

    6) The only thing stopping you now is 2 retaining clips. One is located about 2" or 3" above the latch you just removed, and the other is located about 2" from the extra cig/aux power plug. These thing were so embedded in that both of them broke clean from the trim itself. And I had the trim removal tool!!

Once off, you can just lift and move over the folded rear seats out of the way. No need to remove it from eh seat belts or anything. here are some images of teh trim piece removed and stock sub.

the sub is actually a DVC!! 6.5" diameter

there actually isn't much room in this compartment where audi installed the sub. I woul say you have max 3" of depth there, fyi if you just looking to put a beefier sub in stick location
