    D1S Bulb Replacement? HELP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Quick question, my 02' A4s headlight bulbs have been flickering and not holding color. I wanted to get some new lights that preferable don't flicker and are WHITE haha. I wanted to get a kit off of DDMtuning but they no longer have D1S kits. Although they do have D1S bulbs... Now should I just try changing the bulbs out to see if that changes the coloring and the flickering or do I need to stay strictly on getting a whole kit? If I do need to get a kit where are the best kits for the price. Ive searched around and havent come by anything I really like for the price.

    Please help!

FYI I want 6000k 35W or 55W I don't think it matters to me as much.

    Thanks guys!

^^ Is it happening on one side or both? Did u check inside the housing if anything is broken?

If it's only one side flickering, swap the burners side to side and see if the problem moves with the burner. If not, then swap the ballasts next.

Remove the headlights, and open the covers on the backs of the housings, then remove the D1S lamps from each housing and reinstall in the other side. Then reinstall the headlights for test. Same with the ballasts mounted in the bottom of the housings, if needed. To disengage the harness connectors from the housings, first push the connector toward the engaged/connected direction, then firmly press the release tab while pulling the connectors off the housings. Don't fight the connectors, if properly released the connectors will come off the housings easily. Do not remove the lower rear housing mounting screws, only loosen enough to slide the housings out.

When you say "burners", are you referring to the D1S bulb+base? Also, if his problem (or a problem I'm having) is related to the ballast, is the only option for replacement through Audi? Or is there an aftermarket option? Thanks...

    ^^ Read my sig.

Audi ballasts and bulbs are absolutely ridiculously priced, something like $900 for ballasts + bubls on each side if I remember correctly. Even if you buy an external kit that would last 2 years for $100 or $150, it would take 5 years of replacements to even get close to the dealer's prices. And I highly doubt these kits will die that soon, some cars that have the kits been running some for 2 years without a problem already so...

Yes, the term "burners" refers to the HID lamps, either D1 or D2. New Valeo ballasts are available from Chrysler/Mopar parts for about $100 new, and are the exact same as the OEM Audi/Valeo ballasts. Search for more info on the PN. Good used Valeo ballasts are available from eBay too.

Thanks...that's all I'm looking to do is replace my ballast with another one. I don't need new bulbs or a whole kit, as I just recently (last night) replaced my bulbs trying to fix the issue I'm having, as seen in this post: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...39#post5038839

I'll search around for the ballast PN and give that a try.
