    Exclamation Gas tank problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As the title states, i think i may have a little problem. Whenever i go to fill up and im unscrewing the gas cap, fumes hiss out for about 30 seconds with the cap only unscrewed only about a quarter of the way. so today i was in a hurry and i quickly unscrewed it and pulled it off and it literally shot gas all over me. besides my tank building what seems ridiculous pressure, i thought the gas spew was hilarious, so joke all you like. On a more serious note, I would like some input as to what my problem may be and how i could go about fixing it.
    TIA!

Hmm. Seems like a tank vent or charcoal canister issue. Do you have any codes?

i haven't scanned for any codes as of lately because i have a TP thats throwing a code. I assumed it might be a charcoal canister. anyone familiar with that system? maybe a one way valve is stuck?

This would make for a great commercial; if the driver was trying to put gas below the required octane and it spits gas out, haha. good luck with the fix though

I agree. the charcoal canister is probably clogged and causing the pressure(vacuum?) to build up in the tank.

The bentley manual has a section all of the gas tank stuff. I'd start there.

checked the resistance of the purge solenoid today with my multi-meter, got good resistance, so that either leaves the charcoal canister or something else, anyone want to chime in?
