In the B6, is the parking brake mechanism a drum brake inside the rotor or does the handbrake operate the caliper?

LOL. the ebrake uses the caliper to hold the rotor. on our cars we have disc brakes. and theres no such thing as a drum brake inside a rotor. you wont find oldschool rear drums on any new car.

^wrong. most American cars will have a drum brake setup for the e-brake in the rotor hat

Japanese cars too. My 2002 Altima had drum parking brakes inside the rear rotors. My 94 SHO used the calipers for the parking brake (interestingly its the only other car I've done rear brakes on the I had to screw the caliper pistons in on...coincidence?).

I've seen both setups, thats why I asked.

Many cars use rear drums still, typically on the low end or heavy haul vehicles. My wife's 2000 Celica GT had rear drum brakes which surprised me.

So, can anyone confirm the handbrake is the caliper?

    Thanks Joe.

Presumably the adjuster is somewhere near the handbrake handle, probably a screw type adjuster to tighten the cable. Either that or there is a screw adjuster at each caliper.

correct, the adjustment is on the mechanism to which the cables attach at the base of the e-brake handle. can't remember if it's accessible with just the armrest removed or if the whole center console needs to come out
