Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks or PSS9???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My dilemma, I don't know which to buy

    The cause for my dilemma:

I will never use my car on the track
Coil overs are double the price of springs and shocks

    My question:

Is the difference in price worth it if I am only doing every day driving and I just want to drop the car for the look?
Is there that much difference between the coil overs versus the springs and shocks?

Are coil overs that much better for the car versus springs and shocks (will my suspension get worn out more without coils?)

Is it worth it for the well being of my car in the long run to get PSS9 or not?

Will I ever use the adjustable settings on the PSS9? Once it's dropped will I ever to back to changing the height again?

(Other coil overs like Koni and H&R are almost half the price are they worth it or should I just stick to springs and shocks??)

To clarify though, it's not that I can't afford to buy them it's a question of "Is it worth the extra money if I don't plan on going on a circuit with the car"
Is it better for me to save the money because I don't particularly need the coils?

This help would be very good to me!!
    Thanks!

go spring and shock route if you're happy with the drop the eibach's will give you, i personally have not seen a spring/shock combo that is perfect for my tastes, so i'm on the lookout for some used coilovers so i can dial in exactly the ride i want for a decent price.

but to directly answer your question, in my opinion and i'm sure most others will agree, the coils are not worth the extra money if you are simply looking for the appearance factor and the car will never be on the track.

IMO just save the money and go with the springs and shocks... you are looking for simple aesthetics as opposed to performance... the spring/shock combo will no doubt give you an advantage over stock; however, I cant justify the extra money knowing the coilovers would never be put to their true use!!

    again.. IMO

im thinking the same thing, will i ever use the coils to their full potential...probably not, ill never use the car on a track and i don't drive the car 300 mph so ill never have to use them to their full potential i think.

However I am wondering if the extra money I put on coils will benefit my car in the long run...what I mean to ask is is having coils better for the car overall. Will my car be happier with coils and give me less problems because it is a better system than just getting springs and shocks.

Again I'm simply doing this for the look because I don't really care about driving the car fast or plan on taking curves at 300mph

no, coilovers will not be beneficial to the 'health" of your car. in fact, some might argue that if you go low on coilovers, control arm and tire wear issues can occur.

I was going to start a thread just like this one sometime soon, glad i found this one! I'm in the exact same position you are, I want the drop for the looks and wouldn't need it too much for performance with coils, so I'm going to do the same spring and shock setup.

I'm not sure what model you have, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get these.

Now I have to decide if i want the sport (1.75" front, 1.5" rear drop) or race (1.9" front, 1.5" rear drop) springs to come with the package.

A related question is whether coils at Eibach's height/drop are softer or harsher than sport springs. Re John's prior comment on advantage over stock - that is absolutely the case, assuming it refers to handling performance. Not even close. And throw on some sway bars! You will be more than impressed with handling of your "saloon". Way better than stock set up. (note sig)

You mean "ride" as opposed to handling performance? As in smooth vs. firm vs. harsh? First handling is GREAT.

"Ride" is great on great roads, very good to good on fair roads, harsh on shit roads.
