OEM exhaust question.

Bought my S4 with a 2.5" catback with an Autozone muffler.
Looks like ass but sounds okay, shy of being loud as hell.

Bought an OEM catback recently and have a question.
The OEM has 2 mufflers, as I am sure many are aware, but has anyone eliminated the first muffler & just ran the second muffler?

The piping on the car now is the same size as the OEM, and I am contemplating just hacking the craptastic muffler off & having the OEM welded on instead.

My main concern is sound (goal is very quiet), but with some decent flow still.

Why didnt you tell me you were looking for a stock exhaust? I have my stock one sitting in my garage taking up room.

i removed my resignator on the exhaust and it sounded ok not to much louder, but since i did downpipes no cats it sounds pretty raspy, like a cheap exhaust a lot of people put on their hondas, it drives me nuts but hopfully im picking up and exhaust within a week or so.

With emission testing here I gotta keep the cats. So how big of a difference in volume was it?

i guess i really didnt notice a change. there was a very suttle difference. unless you get a good deal on the exhaust work i wouldnt bother with it, but i did have a miltek 3" exhaust and i thaught that my stock one with the resignator remmoved sounded a bit better to me, a tat bit louder, that is what i was looking for

i cut the rear muffler section off my stock exhaust and had welded in a single 2.5" straight section in and think it sounds pretty good...all cats still intact for now but my passenger side flex joint is rusted through and dowpipes are soon to come...

Its an easy install, and I will be doing it myself.

So the OEM with 1 muffler is slightly louder than the Milltek 3"? (or vice-versa?)

How big of a volume difference was noticed going from OEM to OEM minus a muffler?

The first muffler is just a resonance chamber and doesn't hurt flow at all (you can look right through it). I'd put something better on the back for looks and a little more sound.

i thaught my oem sounded better than the miltek 3'' in my opinion.

i really like the sound, has a bark to it when you go WOT, you can hear the turbo's quite a bit more...Def. worth the cost(free) if you have sombody to bend/weld a straight pipe
