timing belt tension on 3.0/whurring constant

I just completed my timing belt job and noticed a somewhat loud whurring/sucking sound (can't explain); the engine is louder than it used to be. Seems to be either coming from the front of the intake/power steering pump or more front south. I took off my cam timing covers and noticed that on the left side upper cam, the timing belt moved slightly forward. I can also push it back with my hands, so I assume I have the tension too loose. Can you set the tension by leaving the belt on and just slightly adjusting the tensioner without compressing it again? I mean just put more pressure clockwise on the tensioner lever until the belt won't move with my hand.

    Things tried:
    1. removed serpentine belt-still noisy when running
    2. Sprayed the crap out of every pulley I could see with liquid wrench silicone spray-no change that I could tell

Last question I hope. I used Blaupart's kit (great company by the way) and used their tools. I marked my crank bolt and then removed it (used crank lock pin) to replace the seal. When I reinstalled the crank bolt (140 ft Lbs + 1/2 turn), I noticed that the crank bolt was not where it was to begin with. Instead of my white line being straight up, it was now slightly off to the right. Could I have messed my timing up by torquing it too much? I assume it shouldn't matter since I used the pin in the crank and also had the cam locks in. The caveat is that the pulley that you put on (with the TDC mark) will only go on one way. So could TDC be off now (or just an illusion and I will need to make a new mark?)

I did drive it around for about 10 mins and it seems to have good power-it does get boomy (kinda of like a harmonic) in the cabin when I floored it, but I had the front of the car off, so I wonder if that could be why.

I mentioned all of these things just incase they all add up to one solution.

Thank you for any kind words of advice-or similar experience/remedies.

    Chris

The crank bolt mark shouldn't matter, you should have the keyway/cog that is marked and shows TDC, so if your mark down there matches, you're fine.

If the timing belt is adjusted too tight, the belt will "sing" or make a whinning noise that varies with the engine speed. You should only be able to twist the belt ~45 degrees at the longest span between pulleys. If in fact the belt is too loose, you will need to slowly compress the tensioner again to properly retension the belt.

thanks for the replies. either way, I should not be able to move the belt on the Cam pulleys with just my hand/fingers right? I ordered the bentley manual through Amazon the beginning of Feb 10, and still have not received it. All I have to go on is Blauparts instruction and the awesome 3.0 DYI. Bottom line, how do you know if the tension is right.
Also, what does TDC look like on the cams? I know where it is on the crank, but I assumed that TDC was with lobes pointing up on cylinder 3 (when using the cam lock tools). Am I supposed to be lining up with the lobes or is there another mark that lines up with the cam arrow?

    Thanks again

It requires a torque wrench on the idlers, belt tensioner and camshaft pulleys. You can access the factory instructions for 1 day, cheapest cost. at https://erwin.audiusa.com/erwin/show...13380.ASTPVWE2
