Signs my turbo is about to crater?????

Can anyone tell me what the signs are right before your turbo bites the bullet? I have smoke on startup oout the tailpipe when the car sits for a few hours, which is weird I just had the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, valve cover gasket, timing chain half moon gasket and intake breather hoses changed on my car???? Now my turbo is wheezing, like a drill sound from under the hood when I go into boost range, and slightly before boost range?

if you have 3k saved up, do better than a k04. get a gtrs eliminator for 1500, software for 500, and injectors for 300 and spend the other 700 on whatever you want and have 100 more hp than the k04.

Not that easy. You're assuming he already has a good enough FMIC for the GTRS, and not still running stock exhaust. And i would either go with a Carbinio intake or no intake. Nothing in-between.

Dentist drill is the tip off to a dying turbo. Skip the intake, I'm surprised how many people want to mess with that with so many other things they can do. I'd also skip the aluminum TIP (at least as an initial mod) if you decide to stick with a KO4.

    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

I imagine he'll have to pay someone to install that? What's a turbo install, like 1g?

Labor is a wash if his turbo absolutely needs to be replaced and he's looking at a KO4 and an eliminator.

Indeed, but it still needs to be counted in the 3k. Depending on how much a turbo install costs, that could be more than he has for an elim.

Screw labor. Link him to the KO4 or Elim. DIY. It is such an easy job. Not the easiest, but it only takes basic knowledge for the most part. Im too lazy to link him =)

Labour is a non issue, my mechanic buddy is bolting it on for me, then we will tow it to get flashed. Im not interested in GT28R turbo, Im not a track guy and I dont want turbo lag all the way up until almost 4K RPM, that does not appeal to me at all. I would be happy with a solid 247CHP in my everyday driver.
