    B7 wheels to B8

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but I didn't see it when I searched. My wife is thinking about getting a 2010 A4 Sport and trading her 07 A4 Sport. I have an extra set of 18" wheels and tires and am wondering if I can put them on the B8 for winter use if she gets it? Otherwise I will probably start looking for someone selling their 17" B8 wheels to use for the winter. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Not to sound ignorant, but can any wheel repair shop do that, or is there an adapter somewhere I could buy to do this? Thanks again.

I would be careful using adapters on the B8. It seems the B8 is very sensitive to any changes to the hubs. Those adapters will most likely cause the car to shimmy at motorway speeds. Given your situation, I'd have a reputable wheel shop bore them out to the 66.56mm spec.

It depends on the "extra set of 18" wheels" you are referring to.....they might already be the type that are bored out larger and then have adapters to fit smaller sizes. Have a look at the wheel to see if there is a hub adapter on them, if so it might just mean that you have to purchase an inexpensive adapter to make them work. The bolt pattern is the same.

They are Audi OEM S-Line wheels so no adapter. I'll start checking for a wheel shop. Thanks guys.

Just got off the phone with Spec Wheels in Denver. They are wondering what the center bore of the wheels I have are currently? They are OEM S-Line 18" wheels for a B7, but I have no clue what the bore is. Anybody happen to know? Thanks again for the help.

All Audi wheels had a 57.1mm bore until the B8's, which are the 66.56mm now. I have successfully bored out B7 wheels to B8, with dedicated tooling. Find a VERY reputable shop.. Since the wheels are hubcentric, the tolerances have to be spot-on.

Ok, one last question and then I'll stop beating this horse. You guys are all telling me that it's 66.56, but I've seen a lot of posts stating 66.6. I know that's not a huge difference, but I really only want to do this once.
Strat, I think Spec Wheels is one of the best in this state. I absolutely agree that I want to make sure it's done right. I really don't want to make a table out of these wheels. I spoke with Spec Wheels at length and they won't even commit to doing it until they see the wheels in person and make sure there won't be a safety issue with boring them out that much. I don't think there will be, but I was happy to hear they want to see everything first.

66.56mm gives you the super snug fit. 66.6mm is (I believe) what Audi will say the spec is. I aimed for 66.56 but would NOT go under at all.
We're talking .04mm here, which is .00157". That suggests a tolerance of 1.5 THOUSANDTHS of an inch. Thats darn tight.

Tell spec wheels to nail it 66.56mm minimum and 66.6mm maximum. You'll be fine.

That is, if the material removal seems legit. On the wheels I did it to, there was a fair bit of material. The bore only needs to go about 15mm deep, but the chamfer on the wheel needs to be maintained a bit.

I belive the reason people say 66.6 is because they round off the 66.56. I may be wrong though..

    Before-

    After-

    After, Close-up

    66.56mm - 66.6mm.... or 66.58mm +.02/-.02mm.. It is a rounding/tolerance.

And as you can see, in my situation, I had enough material to be safe.

Great pics. I am printing this whole thing and giving it to Spec Wheels. I'm pretty sure I have enough room, but I will let Spec make that decision. Thank you so much for the detailed description. I really appreciate it.
