Mount Pleasant area. Quartz grey. Plate started with "SENNA". Stolen sometime last night, wasn't garaged. Probably long gone by now or in some shipping container.

Buddy's. Full story, broke into their house, took the keys and took the car. THe set of keys had a boomerang key tag and guessing they couldn't find the thing and ditched the car.

I heard about the pepper spray anti theft system... something like.. someone jacks your car, it explodes in the salon. I'd rather spend money to clean that shit, than see my car stolen.

This reminds me, what do you guys think of a car tracking system? Something that's GPS and/or cell-network based to pinpoint cars in case of theft. They guarantee recovery in 48 hours or your money back (for the system, not the car).

We were offered this at the time of purchase but thought nothing of it. While one success story is not a typical example, it's interesting.

Pricing is in the ~$700 range installed. Monitoring is ~$150/year.

Worthwhile imho if you got something you park on a public street!

Yup I know the owner personally who does that system in Montreal, and its legal. Its around $450 to $600, and it needs recharging if the can gets used. I believe the can gives you at least 20-30 sprays for each breakin, so it should last a while. The refill is cheap, I think it is around $25 bucks or so.

I also tried the system on his car, u can NEVER drive that car for at leat 30 minutes after it sprays. In the mean time ur allarmed immidiately, so you can go down and check ur car. Distance is great too. I would do it on my car, but no $$ right now.

Reminds me of this a few years back in South Africa as a theft deterrent. I believe to prevent car-jacking you have a button inside which activates all hell outside :)

I've been advised the opposite. You SHOULD leave your keys near the door. If they are willing to break in your house, they may be willing to come upstairs and confront you and your family for the keys. Better to let insurance buy you a new car than run the risk of your family's safety IMO.

Some things in life are not insured. We could be pussies and let theives steal any and everything they want or be men and do something about it. Otherwise, theives would come in, have some coffee and biscuits, take $10,000 worth of jewelry, the keys for the RS4, maybe some 50" LCD, some $5K hand-made little carpet, and just leave with a nice smile and a middle finger up our faces.

I like how in the states u can have arms to protect yourself at home. Here in Canada, you are now allowed by law to beat the thieve unless he is endangering your life or something. Ya, Canadian law is too laid back and relies on the Police to do everything for you. 99% of the time police wont be there when theives are there.

I'd rather the thief confront me. At least I got to choose what to do, than cower behind supposed fear.

erm, <bang!> you're dead. now what?

car is replaceable. body piercing and/or dead wife/kids are not so easily.

take it easy peeps. car is a car. too many people out there have guns and don't care how they use them...

What if the thieves attempt to do more than just stealing, which is the case in a lot of cases? Rape or sexual abuse to family members comes to mind. Some thieves will hurt you even if you comply 100% and is even nice with them. What do you do? Call the police? No thanks. At least when I need to protect myself and my family, I would, but here in Canada, what do the police expect me to do? Hit him with a hockey bat? Or just chill and watch TV?

I say some changes need to be done to the law in Canada. If I get a ticket for 10 million useless things, I would expect some law to back me up when my life is in danger. Have you heard about that case in Toronto where the thieve got his ass kicked by the house owners only for the family to be charged by the police coz he got hurt? Fucking ridiculous.

    House alarm. Plain and simple.

There were two homes broken in in my area last summer. One had a house alarm and the other didn't. First house broken in didn't have an alarm but the owner woke up and called he cops. The thief then broke into a second did but had an alarm and the thief bolted, but by then, YRP helicopter was flying around and they caught the guy.

If you have a house alarm USE IT. Arm it every night when you go to bed or whenever you leave the house. If someone decides to break in at night while your sleeping, alarm goes off, you wake up, your neighbours will look out their windows, the police will come. I'd gladly hand over the keys or even gift warp the f*****g things, if it meant the different between life and death.

We're talking placing your keys by the front door vs. upstairs in your pocket. Personally, I would recommend leaving the keys by the front door. If they're going to be brazen enough to break into your house to steal your car, best to let them take it and leave, rather than have them confront you in your bedroom.

BUT, lets say for whatever reason they were able to bypass my house alarm, AND the dog - then they better be ready for a aluminum baseball bat to the temple should they try to harm my family. Key is, they break-in, they won't be talking when the cops arrive... ...I'll leave it at that.

Yup, but am just pointing out how flawed the laws are.

You can hand the keys/money/diamonds/etc to some thieves with a smile and a soft drink and THEY WOULD still hurt you or your family. I have seen it before, and I wont be surprised to see it again.

For me to beat the person attempting to break in my property and I, the victim, to experience problems with the police or jail time if the attacker is hurt is non-sense to me. Think how encouraging is that to the thieves.

which is why if more thieves ended up dead (I'm sorry, but if you're in my house without permission - it is the choice you have made) perhaps they might think twice?

sure, heavy handed, but look at your options - it's him or you in most cases

Agree with Bryan and QwkS4, would rather just let them take the keys / car instead of having them confront my family.

Basically Bryan is saying he sleeps with a glock under his pillow, and a sawed off under the bed. Don't step into his house without a vest and a machine gun

the car was sputtering on the carbon, and the thief ditched it for better prospects? So close to getting out of the rs4 too....Could have had an insurance settlement.
