Stock Tires... Are all of them bad?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2010 A4 P came with stock Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires. I have had crappy stock tires from other companies (Toyota), but these really suck. Every time I accelerate out of a turn the ESP goes off and I feel like the power drops out. I am assuming that this is a tire-not-sticking issue. I will likely go back to the dealer and complain, but I don't expect them to do a whole lot. Anyone else have these tires and the same problem? What did you get stock and are they any good?

i looked the LS2s up on tire rack and theyre at like a 3 rating average. they suck in the snow, they suck in the rain, they suck on dry pavement.. and theyre not even that cheap.. what would you expect from OE all seasons though.. probably gonna pick up a set of potenza 760s after these wear.

I've never seen P-Zero's on an Audi, but I have seen P-Zero Rossos on both the A4 and S4.

I know what you're thinking ** P-Zero, P-Zero Rosso, they're probably pretty much the same tire. You'd think. Turns out, not so much.

Consumer Reports has evaluated 21 different tires in the Ultra High Performance Summer category. As is the case many other places, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 takes top honors. Very close behind it, however, is the Pirelli P-Zero.

Where's the P-Zero Rosso in their ratings? Dead last ** 21 out of 21. Definitely not in the same league as the PS2 and P-Zero.

I honestly don't know what purpose the P-Zero Rosso serves in Pirelli's lineup. Although I have seen it cheaper than the P-Zero, it's often almost the same price.

I have an A4 S-Line arriving in a few weeks, and I expect it to come with P-Zero Rossos. If so, I plan to swap them out for a set of PS2's.

Yea I have A4 S-Line in a few weeks also, will have to wait to see what they come with. Hopefully I can last the summer on them, unless the dealer will swamp them out for free. (not likely though)

I was NOT happy to see that the car I ordered (S4) and the car I bought (SLine A4) both had Pirellis...

I'll probably get Conti's or Bridgestone when it's time for replacement.

My A4 3.2 had P6's . Tossed 'em when I went to 18" rims for Bridgestones.
    P6 - soft, squishy, non-responsive - useless!

My perspective on tires has definitely changed with the purchase of the A4. I've always driven on all-seasons, and while I would consult Consumer Reports and tire web sites for reviews when it came time for new rubber, I never gave thought to putting summer/winter tires on the car.

With the A4, I originally thought I'd stay with all-seasons. However, after my research revealed the compromises inherent to an all-season tire, my perspective changed. Not only will I go with summer/winter tires, but the idea of laying out $45+k for a car like the A4 and not putting the best tires available on it seemed to not make much sense. That space where the tires meet the road is, indeed, where it all happens.

While I'm disappointed that the A4 will probably arrive with P-Zero Rossos, their bottom-of-the-pack performance does make for an easy decision in my mind. They've got to go. The additional cost is a small percentage of the total cost of the vehicle.

In five or six months I have to pick out a winter tire/wheel set. I'm thinking Blizzak 235/45/18 LM-60's on a set of BBS CK's, with 7mm spacers to bring them out to where the stock 19x8.5 summer wheels are.

Great, so what will my 2010 Prestige come with?? One of the main reasons why we are going with the Audi is for Quattro in our shitty winters. I would hate to get the car and have to upgrade rubber right away....

Funny... I just came to the exact same conclusion after reading the reviews at discount tire. Based on reviews alone, the Conti Continental ExtremeContact DWS would be my next pick.

I know! Sounds like a great all year round tire. The ratings are through the roof! Price is very reasonable for the size too!

My prestige came with P6's and I've had one tire blow out over a pothole and another tire has lumps on it from another pothole. I just purchased the Continental ExtremeContact DWS from tirebuy.com (free gps when you buy set of 4 tires from continental $499 and above) and will have them installed next week. Nice incentive for these highly reviewed tires.

LS2 are terrible I have had them for over a year and a half. They SUCK!. I have tailed out so many times making lefts and such. The tires are garbage. They are expensive but I cant believe the quality. Now they roll with Pirelli PZero's at the audi of mississauga i went by now.

I have pirelli cinturato, not too bad, must say i was surprised – they have excellent grip in rainy conditions, maybe even better than in dry at times. Funny cause i live in a sunny place (350 days a year) so the car should be made for moderately dry conditions.

Have a P+ Avant, so they came with 245/45-17 Pirelli P6's. Abysmal tyre, they're not quiet for A/S's, cornering is definitely lower-end A/S, braking limited by lack of grip and sub par rain performance. Got tired of this crap at 1500 miles and purchased OEM 2010 S4 19" wheels with 255/35-ZR19 Continental ExtremeContact DW's mounted on them. Handling is almost completely different. Tons of grip dry or wet, predictable handling limits, better launches, and grip to take advantage of the A4's excellent brakes. Not to mention low noise and a comfortable ride for a summer tyre.

Bottom line is this: car the you are ordering will most likely have P6's. I don't know how you drive, but if you value driving dynamics you might factor better tyres on your upgrade list.

the OEM A5 tire is now the Conti ContiSportContact 3... not a bad tire... personally i'd go with the ExtremeContact DW vs the DWS... the DWS is a harder rubber which means less grip in the summer.

My prestige came with Pirelli P6 set - after a tough winter here, they let loose (even given quattro) WAY too easy to be all-weather imo. I can even get them to let loose with a little rain.

Hoping to upgrade by next summer - DWS or something with more summer/rain traction (hoping to leave snow for a few years).

My car came with LS2s and they were worn out by the time I took the car in for my 15k mile service. Some of the worst tires I've ever experienced. They might be fine for a grandpa with a Lincoln town car, though.

My S-Line Avant came with PS-2's, but another one at a different dealer had P-Zero Rosso's. My A5 Cab with Sport Package came with the P-Zero's as well. I have had PS2's on all of my cars for the last 5 years and have yet to find a better tire. Definitely worth the money.

Even on dry pavement, the grip of a summer tire will suffer substantially in cold weather. The soft rubber compounds which make it so great in warmer weather harden in the cold, and the tire actually becomes a worse performer than an all-season would be. If you want the best performance in winter, a winter performance tire like the Blizzak LM-60 would be a good choice.

Another function of winter tires (other than better snow/ice performance) would be to get a tire/rim combo which gives you more sidewall height. Around here, the roads can get really cratered in the winter, and a little extra sidewall can mean the difference between a non-event and expensive rim damage.

Just got the Contintal ExtremeContact DWS put on and they ride much smoother, quieter, and stabler than the stock P6's, which were pretty clumsy. Pretty good grip on dry pavement and they feel great so far.

My sport pkg came with p7's, they are fine. Perhaps ps2 is gummier performance, but these are great for my purposes. I noticed in test drives that both the ls2 and the p6's suck. But that's what a sports package is all about. If you care that much for performance, you need the tires.

my 2009 avant w/ sport pkg came with Michelin PS2's. I love these tires. I've had these tires before on my AMG...so much grip in the summer...very soft rubber so they don't last forever if you ride them hard.

Not sure how they would do in the winter (not much snow up here in N. Cal) but would assume they would suck in extreme cold weather.

Rain and summer they are amazing and worth the money if you like to push the limits.
