    PLEASE HELP! Drivetrain issues

So i just recently bought a used audi a4 quattro 1.8t manual, when i went to look at it it drove very nice with no noise... Now the cam chain tensioner chatters like crazy anytime at idle after the oil heats up, gotta replace that... What i cant figure out is the drivetrain issues. When starting from first under acceleration ONLY there is a loud chattering metal noise that immediately goes away when i hit second, then randomly when i accelerate gently in any gear i can hear a short buzzing noise and as the speed of the vehicle increases there is a humming noise coming from i believe my left front wheel. I am having a hard time figuring out if it is the bearing or it is a cv joint or a transmission problem. I'm leading towards the wheel bearing but am also having a hard time finding the bearing removal tool Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated id rather not replace the cv joint, the hub, and the bearing. Anyone with similar problems out there??

The humming noise is a bad wheel bearing and the chattering of the cam chain tensioner is more than likely due to a fracture on the little plastic peice. It's a common issue. Not sure what to tell you about your tranny, though.

I found the easiest way to replace a wheel bearing is to have a shop do it (some shops can do it while the hub is still on the vehicle, so no aligmment needed afterwards). And I like to fix things on my car myself. You can always do it yourself, but I find that paying $70 for someone else to do it is a lot less frustrating than obstacles that will happen along the way. I went to replace one of mine a couple months back, and it was a headache. I neded up just taking it to a shop..................and I had to get an alignment (which I would have needed to do anyways if I did it myself). I couldn't get one stupid bolt off and watching my mechanic trying to get it off let me know I would have never gotten it off.
I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like a bitch

the chattering could be a synchro or retainer on the input or output shaft. i would consider getting that taken care of. it could easily take out your whole trans if it goes too long without getting fixed. first thing you should do is change the trans oil. empty the fluid into a CRYSTAL CLEAN pan and inspect for metal shavings and chunks.

Hmm i will consider looking at the tranny but i still feel like it is both front driveaxles that are bad. Yesterday i found a loose tranny mount and i am thinking that thats what caused my broken driveaxles and i now think the right rear wheel bearing is the one making noise... Cant wait to start enjoying the car for what it is and stop worrying about problems
