    Hows it going guys.

    I just bought a 2001 S4 with 70,000 on the ticker.

Anyways the dealership is offering me a warrenty on the car that covers everything from turbos to seals and gaskets to window motors.

I cant decided if I should but it

Its a 4 year unlimited mileage warrenty for $1400 with $100 deductable

I probaly wont put more that 10,000 miles a year on the car.

    Link to warrenty info

I read a lot about when these cars break down it cost 10x as much to repair. Now this is just going to be my DD. I wont be beating on it. So I wonder how prone things are to go wrong on these cars.

It's a nine year old Audi. Things are going to break regardless of beating on it or not. If you don't wrench on your own car, like most people here, go ahead and spend the extra money on the warranty. But the really big ticket item as you probably know are the turbos and you'll end up paying the difference for an upgrade over stock turbos under a warranty, because no one puts stock turbos back in when they blow.

Better make sure the warranty isn't voided if you have modified your car.

Always read the fine print, you'd be surprised what is not covered in a "Bumper to Bumper" warranty.

Also warranties are very profitable for the person selling it, something like 20-40 percent of the price goes to the seller. Warranties are also very negotiable. Haggle haggle haggle!

who is the warranty company? I had GE something.. used it to replace my gauge cluster with the dead pixels.. Audi thought it was a safety issue so they replaced that, did the valve cover gaskets, seals on the rear diff which they say was about 4k worth of work and parts (900 for a new S4 cluster) and only paid the deductible. Definitely paid for the warranty according to dealer prices.

I would say do it! :) What are you buying the car for?

the warrenty is through this place. http://www.carsprotectionplus.com/in...yle2&Itemid=71
Its the middle package. Value plus limited.

The only problem I am seeing with this plan is that it only covers up to 60 bucks an hour. You can get more hourly coverage rates but you have to get a more expensive plan.

I dont know what to do. I already am over my budget on buyin this car to begin with but I have a feeling if I dont buy it im going to have problems and then if I do buy it nothing is going to go wrong with the car.

the bolded statements are big red flags to me. Average maintaince costs for this car per year are (arguably) ~$2k and that is for a pretty generally healthy S4. Some years are worse than others and the first year with an S4 tends to be the worst (the reason people get rid of S4s, especially Joe Q Public, is they see a bill for axels, timing belt, and control arms and freak out). And I know of no shops (even indy shops) that charge $60/hour.

Is a warranty a good idea generally? Sure. Is putting $150/month away for repairs a better idea? Yea probably, that cash won't ever come back to you and say "sorry, we aren't gonna cover that".

$1400 is pretty cheap but like KNaudi said most shops will charge more than $60/hr. If you have stock turbos, I think a warranty is worth it.

i had a GE warranty, it cost 2400, saved me 1600 in repairs, and it got voided when my turbos blew.

all in all. $8k lost in that fubar'd event.

if you plan on touching any part of the car to mod it, don't buy it.

Why did it get voided when your turbos blew? Because you put KO4's in? They told you it was voided or u figured?

I agree with the comments to really read the fine print. I mean spend two hours reading it and list what it covers, what the deductibles are, and then research what the common problems are on this car. Most of these warranties don't cover an aux pump failure (~1000), CV boots, etc as they are "wear and tear". These are really VSC plans and not warranties. There is a high likelyhood that they will end up paying out less than you paid for it, they would be out of business otherwise.

Use that 1400 to pay for the upcoming 80K + Timing Belt etc that will be coming up soon. It will easily cost that much.

Crappy warranty IMO, it names parts covered and it doesn't seem to cover lots of them.

for a boost guage that was in the car when i purchased, and a muffler. then they threw in that i had a modified ecu because of posts i made saying so on audiforums....

they called and told me i had no warranty or affiliation with them at that point, no return in funds or anything

A warning about that warranty company (C.A.R.S): They don't have the best reputation.. For example, if you blow your turbos, they will cover the book labor, but will not pay for new turbos, they will only pay for whatever the cheapest set they can find at a junkyard or somewhere like car-parts.com. If those turbos then blow again in a few thousand miles, they'd just cover the same way, used turbos price.. over and over again till you run out of your warranty

Have you had this warrenty before?

Yea im going back and forth with this. I know how to wrench on a car a s far as changine sensors or replaceing a alternator, but I woundnt probaly ever want to tackle pulling the engine for replacing turbos.

I cant sleep at night thinking if I should do this or not. Ha

i think you may make out better with the idea of taking 150-200 bucks( or more) per paycheck and putting it in a rainy car day fund

I did click through the links, but I think that "exclusion" warranties are a much better deal, they have a list of items (usually a dozen or two) that are not covered, and everything else is. The first time you have a repair and find only the major components are covered, you will wish you had the exclusion warranty vs the named parts.

2x. a rainy day fund will never tell you that part isn't covered.
