    Turbo setup question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok so I know this had been asked a few times, at least. But I have the chance to get a T3/T4 for really cheap from a friend.

It is a T3/T4, 57trim, not sure of the A/R right now, will add later when he gets back to me.

Now my question is, what all do I need to be able to use this on my car.

I'm a turbo noob so go easy on me with the flaming. And yes I searched but didn't really find what I was looking for.

Didn't search hard enough. It is a sticky at the top of the FAQ page.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...sked-questions!

Post #1, question #16 goes through manifolds ect...

    T3/T4
Requires ATP or aftermarket exhaust manifold depending on flange, custom downpipe, and custom intake. hp numbers vary as there are numerous different sizes, Trims, A/R's and such. Requires custom tune, standalone, or dyno tune. CTapp is also a good option for software.

I run the 034 stage 3 turbo kit with the 57 trim. I would talk to Issam about a mani, downpipe, oil lines, and all other required hardware.

Turbo setups are a really nice thing to want to have. But you would really need to factor in the supporting mods to get an idea of final cost. And FWIW, the journal bearing turbochargers are not all that expensive brand new (~$650), and that is why many opt to go with them. The downfall is that they would require a tad bit more cooling down time, you really don't want to boost till you reach at least 175*F oil temp (and that is moderate boost), there is a larger lag with the journal bearing turbochargers, and they tend to have more issues than other turbochargers (needing rebuild, mostly due to improper care). But the rebuild is such a normality for journal bearing turbochargers that it can be had for cheap.

I would personally look into sourcing out used parts, if you plan on pursuing that path. And with rods, you should be able to see 350+whp with that turbocharger. Talk to a tuner (I would suggest CTapp) to find out what size injectors and MAF you would require to run that setup on the AEB, then all the other supporting mods are pretty much the same.

The only reason I'm even considering this is just because he is going to sell it to me for only $50 bucks. Couldn't pass that up, even if I don't use it haha.

Oh and its a brand new turbo, he got another one before he even used this one.

I would take it for $50 regardless. That's how much I paid for a used stock k03s, with bad wastegate (0 shaft play). If you don't use it, someone else would. But you would def want to find out the specs on that turbo.

Yea that's what I'm thinking. And he is getting me the specs when he gets home from work, so I will find out in a few hours.

Make sure to find out what brand the turbo is, watch out if its a cheap ebay turbo. Only problem with going with turbo like this is you will have to do a few more custom items (turbo inlet pipe, hot side IC piping, etc..) because not that many people run these type of turbo setups. Dont get me wrong it can be done, I have a t3t4 50 trim myself and love it but make sure you know that its going to take some work to get a nice setup.

Skip Chris Tapp. His intakes are impossible to make (4" off turbo) and they are too touchy with tuning on idle. Go standalone.

I have tried probably 4+ different intake setups with Tapp. None seemed to work (flow straighteners and all). Save yourself the time, money and just go standalone.

Take a look over on Vortex as well. The T3/T4 57 Trims are more popular over there.

I actually had one for awhile, but never installed it. (funding issues/got "let go") There's a few people that have had surging issues with that turbo, but that was before there was much support for it. I know there's a few 337's around with them, and make damn good numbers, but the most popular one I've seen has cams as well (to help with the surging).

Here's an idea of what the powerband would be like on a stock engine (small port)

"Thank god I had my body, because it felt so good."

Your experience in this field is breaking my heart. I was hoping not to have to jump to standalone right away. Honestly the cost isn't crazy considering the cost of builing an engine, but was something I was hoping to put off. :(
