    Ross-Techs helping out

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well I called Ross Tech today and talked to Uwe (the founder).

I explained to him what I was trying to do and gave him a bit of the coding I had found. He is now going to send me an unencrypted cut down version of the labels to work with. He's leaving out auto tests and such as he said they don't ever give that coding out. But he is giving me all the adaptation and long coding labels for module 09. So I can now make my additions and help make searching for and documenting new things easier. He just asked I update it and send it back so they can share it in their next release which isn't to far off.

Apparently a bunch of stuff I found in 5F has been recorded by them but not verified or in English for that matter which is why they haven't released a label file for that module. I offered to confirm the coding since I have personally verified 8 bytes and don't mind translating the file with google translate.

I will share what I can where I can but at least everyone will have it included in the next beta.

This is great. I was seriously questioning the decision to buy an original ross-tech based on your previous comments. This pushes me back into the "buy-original" camp.

Yeah I got the files about an hour ago. He has asked me not to distribute them and I can understand that. But rest assured anything I find out I will be sharing with the group. I just wont be able to hand out the new label files. I also need to translate one of the files from German but since I had most of it mapped shouldn't be to hard.

Neither. You'll need a HEX cable for the B8: http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/m...ry_Code=VAGCOM

Unfortunately these are more expensive, but you can save $20 if you don't mind a serial interface instead of USB.

I don't know about that. I mean it's not a cheap cable but look what you can do with it. If you broke down all the options and changes you can make and divide it by the cost of the cable you'd be like $20 a mod, let alone the on going value of having something like that handy.

no one will do a group buy on a Vag-Com cable... its been tried before... not enough room for markup on the cable.

When was the last time this was attempted? The briskoda forum was able to get 85 people together for a group buy, but you have to be in the UK. I don't know what our buying power here would be, or what it would need to be to get a decent deal. If it has been awhile since this was attempted, it may be worth trying again.

I believe the last time was last fall... a vendor here on AZ stepped up and said flat out "we only make $5 profit per cable sold... not gonna happen"

Well, that stinks. I guess I will wait until June to see what their waterfest special will be.

No nothing. More for you guys really. I log all the stuff I find and do on a document but that doesn't do you guys any good. So I went to Ross Tech to get the first couple of files so I could update them and submit them with the changes. The hope is to help the community as a whole so that my findings don't end up lost on a post somewhere. Audizine just got lucky I call this place home right now ;)

Your all a great group and I get just as much as I give and I'd feel bad if I didn't share after so many people contribute to my other mods.

I and many many others have found stuff, sent it to Ross Tech and it's made the product.

OK it's a business but by doing so we all benefit.

David's just got the bug real bad! ;)

Hmm a cease and desist for helping people get free options

Honestly it did cross my mind for a moment but figuring Ross Tech has been doing this for a while I figured they leave me alone.. I hope..

I have mapped out a lot more than what I have shared here. The only reason I haven't posted it is because it's not something immediately useful. Things like activating the sports differential module link, side stability module link, active rear spoiler oh and my favorite the convertible roof module.

I know I haven't thrown much up in the last few days but I have mapped out more of the modules. This I hope will just help eliminate some of the blind checking and make finding other things down the road easier.

One that is bothering me though is I found a bit that when activated reduced the lighting of the interior lights slightly. It's bugging the hell out of me why a bit would do that. Is there something else that goes along with it to make the dome light light adjustable? Who knows but I wish I could find out why it did that.

Could it be it dropped slightly due to the outside light level? i.e. perhaps it's using the light sensor perhaps try again in the dark or garage with lights on/off ?
