Angry NYC Pot Hole Class Action Suit!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been driving in New York for many years now, but I've never seen the roads so bad. I have bent and replaced THREE fu*&ing wheels already and the roads just keep getting worse. I'm sick and tired of cursing and screaming at the roads and Mayor Bloomberg every morning on my way to work. Who is down to sue the shit out of the city??? I mean what the hell do we pay taxes for? Definitely not this. I don't know if it's just me but I'm sooooo pissed about this.

I'd love if something was done about it.. I can't even count the amount of times I curse in a day when hitting pot holes.

The Belt pkwy is truly atrocious.. I figured the best lane to stick to is the middle one.. and it's still bad.

At least they should consider a different method or different material to put down. LIE, Grand Central, 59th street bridge, parts of Astoria BLVD, I can fill up the page with roads that really suck. Honestly I think it's because nobody complains to the city, if we start something going I'm sure we can be heard.

Well maybe this will help!!!! I dont have # on me but can get it or Im sure if you call 311 you can get it but you can make a claim against the city if you damage a rim or blow a tire!!! Bad news, its gonna takes months to get, so if your willing to call do paperwork and then just forget about it and wait for settlement, then by all means go for it!!!! As for the belt pkwy, yes its f**ing horrible, middle lane is best but be careful around padegaet Basin and Mill Basin bridges! If you noticed all the construction, its because they're replacing every bridge on belt pkwy from Penn. Ave to Bay Pkwy....http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/download...wybrgs_eng.pdf If you noticed they cleared all trees on side of belt because they are going to make new lanes in that area and temp bridges while they rip down old ones and put up new!!! And by 2012 the kosciuzko Bridge is being ripped down and replaced because the grade of the bridge is to steep for trucks and against NY laws!!!! So expect major major traffic for the next 100 yrs, tell your kids what to expect!!!!

Alright no one is going to like this but this is how it works.

NY state has put repaving and repairing roads on the back burner over the past couple of years because of the economy. They have stuck to just filling holes with cold patch that doesnt last long at all. So since they have neglected the roads for a couple years they have become terrible. There is a estimated 650k pot holes on LI alone and not enough crews to fill them all. Also we have a had a terrible winter and even if they were filled they would still pop open. Since we have been hit week after week with snow and had many cold cold days and then warm days this is recipe for disaster even for the smallest crack. Unfortunately if no one reports the pothole then there is nothing they can do about it. So since the gov agencies have no paper work saying there are potholes in that area then you more than likely wont get paid and even if there was a report of it the process is very long and you wont see any money for months, thats even if they accept your claim.

I work road construction and for the DOT. The job I am on right now is filled with them. I have had one crew for two months straight just on pothole duty. The best thing to do is just to drive slower and try to avoid them.

They do have this on their site:
    http://a841-dotvweb01.nyc.gov/Pothol...Complaint.aspx

I remember there was some website not so long ago that allowed you report and comment on these "conditions"

    This could of been it:

You guys don't understand, this is not a "report a pothole" thread, this is a "lets do something about the city's ignorance toward road conditions" thread. The city should invest a little more into the materials and methods of repaving roads the right way which in return will give them longer lasting and maintenance free roads. I can't drive around like this any more, it's not even about the money anymore. I am the type of person that likes to keep my car in mint condition and takes extra care of it and it's not fair that we have to deal with these roads, especially with taxes increasing across the board every day.

Sorry man I am just telling you how it is. Because of the economy the DOT wasn't given as much money to repair roads. We are currently rebuilding roads out on LI. Like I said there isn't much you can do except report and file paper work. You aren't going to win anything. They get thousands of claims a year and only a handful are paid out. Like I said I work for the DOT. There is nothing we can do about our harsh weather conditions. The weather destroys roads. The cheapest solution is a patch. Repaving costs millions that we don't have.

All you have to do is submit a claim aganist the NYC highway department.. tell them where, what time, what day, and take pictures of are for you own proff and they will pay for the damages. I hit a pot hole that cause 4k in damages and they paid for it... if you do what I did it will be painless and stress free.
1- file a claim with your insurance company for the damages if it exceeds more than policy
2- tell your insurance company to sue that state for the cost
It worked for me and it was the best move I made on my part and my insurance company did not raise my insurance cause it wasnt my fault and they got there money :)

Yea easiest thing to do is get a police report and file a claim through your insurance.

I work for these people and they didn't even pay me when I destroyed two rims.

No my license plate doesn't say that.

No offence, but you are the one who really doesn't understand. Overall the City does not give a shit about pot holes, the roads or especially your car when they are cutting budgets left & right. Don't get me wrong, I'm against pot holes as well but you have to simmer down and do what you can to protect yourself. I've bent rims, egged tires, blown out tires, etc. and yeah, it sucks, it's expensive, but that's life. Shit happens. If you want to keep your car so pristine, then put it in a garage and DD a Civic with 15" rims and a 60 profile tire. I work as a civil engineer, so I know a little about the roads, maintenance of the roads, etc. Nvrfllw, rayallday & CustomAvant all posted good suggestions.

You won't see many potholes patched except the worst ones until we are no longer dipping into freezing temps. Once water gets into a freshly patched hole and freezes all the work is undone and will need to be patched again. So for now, scan the road like a mofo, bob & weave, slow down or just don't drive your car. Also, a set of smaller winter wheels is not a bad idea either.

The city roads really are exceptionally bad right now due to the snowstorms. I'm running my 16 inch stockers and still having heart attacks whenever I drive in. Not only do you need to be careful around the cabs but also gotta keep your eye on the roads as well. So for my future trips I'm training it at least until the summer.

It's this mentality that will keep the roads from ever being fixed. My whole point is to get people to start fighting this and I guarantee the city will care, and I have the right to use my Audi as a DD without having to worry about pot holes.

You have a right to use your Audi as a DD. You also have a right to understand the world around you and adapt/adjust to it as you can't control everything & everyone.

Like I said, you just don't get it. It's ok, I was in your shoes once. Maybe you should listen to those people who work in the industry and know what's going on.

These road conditions are nothing new and in economic times like this, try and be reasonable.

Why not use your X5 or Lexus RX350...or do they bend rims too?

Lol I was just going to say that. Seems as if someone is very spoiled and feels like everyone owes him something.

Matt, who do you work for?

I wouldn't even ride my bicycle on these streets, and I wouldn't make false interpretations about others if I didn't know them, if I was spoiled I wouldn't care about the roads let alone my cars.

A private full service engineering firm in Melville. We do work mostly in Nassau/Suffolk, but dabble in the Burroughs.

Are you with the NYSDOT or a sub-contractor?

A62T, I'm not attacking you. I know where you're coming from, but do yourself a favor, be reasonable and look at the big picture.

Listen guys I have given you all the best advice I can. Like I said roads are inspected and an assessment is made on the condition of the roads. Problem is half of those inspections happened early in the fall and early winter before storms came. Over time a void is created under the asphalt and when it rains or snows and water freezes and thaws in these voids it creates a pothole. There is nothing now that can be done except get funds together for early spring and repave the road. As of right now no repaving can start until after April 14th I believe according to NYSDOT rules and specs. Paving costs a lot of money and its the money that the government doesnt have right now. My own contractors havent been paid in 3months because the state doesnt have the money right now to pay them and our job is using stimulus money.

The statement above mine is very naive. We our in a recession right now. Money is being used to save businesses and for more important things then roads. I know roads are important but projects have been put off for right now to create more funds so effectively fix the problem. You fix it once you fix it right. Just like you mod your car. Do it once do it right.

Also in Suffolk/Nassua there are over 650k potholes reported and they have had crews fixing them for months now. But every time one is fixed another appears.
