is this my belt or not???

when i turn my wheel it sounds like the belt whining i checked my power steering fluid it was low so i filled it back up and still have the sound what can this be???

I think he's referring to the lock of the wheel, as in full stop of the rack range. A video would help to determine if it's a screaming belt or a screaming pump.

yea i understand what hes saying about the wheel being locked but once you start the car it unlocks...yes the car makes the noise once it starts if thats the question..oh well i gotta do some work anyway whats one more thing

No, that's not what he means. Full lock with the car running, as in the wheel is cut all the way to one side or the other often produces a high pitched squeal from the pump. You can usually feel a belt issue through the steering wheel.

oh no it makes it regardless of the wheel to one side or not i have to do the turbos and timing belt in the next few weeks anyway i have all the stuff just waiting for the snow to melt ill figure it all out thanks for the help though

Anyway, it happening at full lock is a common thing. How low was your PS fluid? It being low for a while can kill your PS pump.

i know the pump will blow with the wheel turned to one side for a long time ive never heard of it being called full lock but ok...no it just started doing it ..it whines then when i turn the wheel and this could be a inch it gets alot louder..now is it the pump or the belt is the question...im not even worried about it ill fix it ill figure it all out

Not sure if its the belt or pump, but if it's squeeling and you were low on fluid...depending on how low you were your pump could be on its way.

What color is your power steering fluid? It should be green. If it is brown that could be the problem and you definitely need to change it.

If the sound is a squeal, it's probably the belt. If it's a whine, then you probably just have some air in the system that hasn't completely been worked out yet. It's quite common (I've seen it happen several times) for the pump to continue to whine for a while after having the fluid topped up when it was low (low, as in the reservoir is empty).

yea it was a brown color now it looks green because i added it a few times again to flush it the sound went away alot bit still has a slight sound..not a belt sound but more like a rattle now??no big deal ill gt it all worked out summer is coming and the snow it melting thanks for your help

Sounds like the PS pump pulley bearing might be on its way out...
