    good in-dash dvd / navi for B6 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,
I bought a '05 S4 convertible a couple days ago (will take pictures as soon as it looks clean enough :) It has the Symphony with Bose Sound system. I bought a Garmin 765t for now but eventually I would like to get the radio replaced. What would you recommend?
What I need is: good sound quality, cd, decent navigation for US (i'm in CA), bluetooth, preferably some direct iPhone/iPod connectivity
Should I get the stock Audi navi or maybe one of those Pioneer / Eclipse / Kenwood / Alpine?
    Thanks,
    Greg

Pioneer. For me, the most important thing about GPS is its start up time. Newer Pioneer are pretty fast.

Stock navi for the best results. Most of the wires needed are already in the car. I updated mine to the stock and I love it.

    Right here.

    Depends what you are after,

I have the stock Navi and it is OK. But I am pretty particular when it comes to Navis, and I find the stock a little clumsy to use (I carry a Garmin in the glovebox because it is so much easier), and I hate the fact I have to have the Navi DVD in the drive. I have looked at replacing mine with a couple of Pioneer units, I love the Alpines too.

What I look for, internal Navi storage/no DVD required to use Nav. I hate carrying CDs in the car so I want one that has an SD slot for music (stock is great this way).

There are a few of them out there, but I would go check them out and see which ones you like the look/feel of. Quality wise, I don't think you can go wrong with Pioneer, Alpine, or Eclipse. the stock unit is great most of the time, but the Nav feels like an "old" interface, and mine won't read DVDs when it gets hot. I have heard this is common.

    thanks guys,

what do you think about that: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ms/AVIC-X710BT
It's a lot cheaper than Kenwood (I found that Pioneer for around $470), it has all the features I care about (bt, iPod). The only thing I'm not sure of is if the maps are preloaded or they work from cd/dvd (I'm pretty sure they're preloaded but can't confirm that) and then I'm not sure about the quality of Pioneers navigation. Kenwood has Garmin so I guess it's very good, how about the Pioneer? Do you have any experience with that?

I got the Pioneer today. It's awesome, sound quality is better than original. Navi is pretty good. iPod / USB connectivity is outstanding.
The only, huge problem is that my FM signal is horrible. I can find maybe 1-2 stations with pretty good signal, but even with that it's constantly loosing them....I think that they didn't connect the antenna or something because it's just impossible. I called them today and they said that this can be normal with aftermarket radio but they will check it anyway...
I can't believe that it can be normal :/

Nah man, not normal. They probably didn't use the powered antenna adapter, which needs a power source.

Congrats on the nav. Looks good. Clean install (props on not having the two housing thing that some people have). The FM should be good, my friend have the same one, FM signal are strong with that one.

I have the pioneer Z2. The FM won't work without the power adapter. I guess the stock cable will plug in still but won't work.

Seeing as how you already have a carbon fiber interior, why not send that piece of trim surrounding the new nav to Matt at oCarbon? It'll probably look a lot closer to OEM than it does now.

    Just sayin...

VW group factory radios have internal power antenna, which should be added to every non-factory radios. Basically it's something like this: http://sklep.rms.pl/index.php?p694,s...a-seat-ks40070
