It's only blue to the sides, due to the way it is coated (only to the sides), so it doesn't destroy headlight performance.

If you want the entire beam to be 6000K, then look for the Ultinon 6000K, which are harder to find

Anyone know the lumens of the 'UltraBlue 6k" ? If those just make the headlights "flicker" blue when they're seen from a slight bit off center that's TOTALLY what I want. I just love that classy blue look as a car is coming around a bend or something but the crystal clear white light when it's head on. It'll make a white C5 A6 very classy. If those are near the lumen output of stock bulbs I'm all over it! :)

The Ultinon 6000k puts out about 25% less light than a standard 4300k. Still a lot more than halogens, but just FYI.

Bulbs have nothing to do with this flicker, this is result of light refracting from the metal cutoff shield. Therefore, each projector will be different in regards to how colorful or thick its cutoff is. People sometimes mod their projectors (by marginally spacing out the distance between the bulb and cutoff shield) to achieve a more colorful cutoff.

In this picture you can see what I'm talking about, see the blue cutoff at the top of each beam. (FYI the top beam is an actual HID projector while the bottom is a halogen projector with an HID kit)

as far as i understand the philips ultrablues are 4300k. what gives them more blue color is the fact that the sides are actualy slighly painted blue on the bulb itself. there is not much info out there on these bulbs. they are very expensive and only available from a couple UK online vendors.

you are correct but we are not talking about the ultinons here. the philips ultrablues are different bulbs. i am currently running the ultinons and definitely notice the less lumens on the road.

The lens for the projector also plays a really big role. Most of the time, without a clear lense you won't get much of a flicker effect.
