    occasional odd high rev?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
it first happened this evening after about driving for 10 minutes. i took off from a traffic light and tried shifting into 5th gear going about 50mph
when i shifted and stepped on the gas it revved till redline, so i took my foot off the gas and put it back on thinking it was a fluke or a mistake i made with the clutch, but it did it again when i put my foot on the gas, so i pulled over and sat for a few minutes

i got back on the road and all seemed fine, but now it does it usually in 4th gear
it wont go to redline but it will rev about 1k over what it should, then go back down
but this isnt happening constantly just every now and then

i searched and got maybe it might be my clutch slipping but that doesnt seem right?
a mechanic friend i have suggested something to do with the throttle body going bad?

    any suggestions
just yesterday i was thinking about how happy i was about not having any mechanical problems in my whole year of ownership, and now i feel like my transmission is going out
    it's a 5-speed manual

Halfway through your post I was going to say slipping clutch, but then you said it right after that. That's honestly what I think from the symptoms you described.

That definitely sounds like a slipping clutch. How many miles are on your car? When I bought mine with 40k my clutch had to be replaced, but the previous owner must have been really hard on it :(

With these electronic TBs if they fail they usually stop working or even if they get misaligned your car will throw codes or run like crap doesn't sound like TB. I would definitely say slipping clutch, it only does it in high gears when under more load. How many mile on the clutch?

I had a really similar problem and everyone told me it sounded like a slipping clutch; problem with that was I had about 3K miles on my ECS RA4 Stage 2 clutch( which is perfect, I may add). My problem occured even at idle it would rise to about 1900-2200 rpm then drop back down to 800 rpm; turned out to be the check valve under the back of the intake manifold near the coolant flange close to the firewall was broken, it was a 57 (yep, stealership was the fastest way to get the part) dollar five minute fix. Good luck ...

If you are in gear and driving with your foot off of the clutch and the RPM's climb independent of the car, your clutch is definitely slipping. If the problem is occurring when you are at idle your problem could be as stated by hihosilver.

there are 116k miles on the original clutch (i believe it is the original) i had my mechanic friend drive the car this morning and he also said it is most likely the clutch is going bad.
can anybody point me in the direction of a new clutch without having to pay for one at the dealership?

there are cheaper ones you can find. i just think compare to OEM this ones better..but you can find chap clutches if you just want to slap one on, but don't rely on it..and diy it if you can to save a lot of $$$
