RS6 Turbo Install Issues and Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Doing an RS6 turbo install right now. However, there is a big issue. On the passenger side, the turbo does not fit. As you can see fmor the picture, the wastegate actuator is hitting the motor mount, the motor mount bolt, and the starter. I can remove material from some stuff, but I am not going to shave down the starter...

Is this normal? The turbos are used, and the previous owner does not know if any modifications were needed. It is more then 6mm off, so a fair amount of material would need to be removed, and this doesnt seem normal. We've tried a couple manifolds to see if there was a discrepancy.

Ok but the turbos were installed on the car... so how were they installed on the car? Did they just remove a huge amount of material and not use the 4th bolt in the motor mounts? Custom starter? They are Antoan's, but since he didn't install them, he apparently has no clue. Can this wastegate be replacing with a standard wastegate? or does it have different opening characteristic?

the wastegate actuator has been modified to fit into there, its a very tight fit, material has been removed from it... but its not removed in the problem areas.

Any ideas? Antoan has no idea.

you could most prob get bw actuators to fit. They got them to fit but god knows how looking at them pictures. Have you got any pictures further out so i can see the hole turbo bolted up ? See what the gap is like from the turbo flange to the manifold flange.

You could get some BW actuators and it would be plug-n-play. Otherwise, you could shave off a bunch of metal and make those ones work. I'd personally get some of those shiny brass-looking ones, and not compromise the structural integrity of the mount support if I were you

yeah, my RS6's were very tight but nothing is rubbing.. get some K04' wastegate actuators and youll roll with the rest of the build.. and btw the k04's are actually stronger than the RS6's.. (wastegate actuators)

Thanks gentlemen. We decided to get some K04 actuators, which we can hopefully get quickly. I am still confounded by how these would ever fit on anyones car, without at least a custom starter or something and heavy modifications to the motor mount bracket. They are clearenced for vertical space, but not horizontal space.

People have told me K03 and K04 use different actuators. But they actually have the same part number sometimes, and a different one sometimes. Anyone want to comment on this? They apparently start at the same pressure (around 6-7psi) (according to ATP and to my home tests (t valve, they open equally and the same at the same pressures). And they are interchangeable as far as bolting them on. So... anyone reason I can't use a pair of these? Lot easier and cheaper to find then brand new K03/K04 actuators, which run between $80 and $150 each. 034 also sells the same actuator for both K03 and K04's.

I also agree. And I am not comfortable removing material from the starter either... I don't know how thick it is or anything like that, and it would essentially be touching. As I am sure we all know, metal expands a huge amount at the heat levels our engine bays see, especially near the turbo, and if there is no clearence @ 55 degrees... there is going to be negative clearence at 350 degrees. This car sees track duty, can't be having that.

Yes k03 and k04 are the same P# Make sure you have them set right call mike at vast and see if you can send him the turbo's and have him set the acuator's it is very important that they are set right i hope you have a built motor because those turbos are capable of making 700CHP so about 550-600whp.

Anything metal in your engine bay shouldn't be expanding by more than 3-5 thousands of an inch in any direction at 350 degrees.
