Well we are floting around 0 right now but have been as high as 12 in the last few weeks. We do get the same warm temps as you do down south they just come and go real quick. Another 3-4 weeks and it will be summer type weather on most days. Then we are usually back into fall by September and winter before mid October.

I don't see any harm in this mod since you can still control the lights manually. It's just stopping the car from turning them off.

Geez I've been struggling with this. Thank god, David. I've been thinking "foglight on with highbeam" as "turning the foglight on when highbeam is on", and I have never succeeded! Now that I see, it was meant to be "Foglight stays on when highbeam is on, if the foglight was on."

    What a fool here! LOL

Guess you haven't been to my website then. I listed it as "Front Fog Lights stay on with High-beams" there.

yo david i did this code today and double checked it and it didnt work.

    Adjust LED Brightness
This will allow you to change the intensity of the LED's when your headlights are on. By default the LED's are only 8-9% or brightness.

    [09 – Cent. Elect.]
[Security Access - 16] (enter security code. One of the default codes is- 20113)
    [Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 3
Enter new value for LED brightness i.e. "10" If you want LED's at 100%.
Values bellow 5 turns the LED's off and generates an error code and warning in DIS .

I turned on my headlights and the leds still dim a bit, What did i do wrong?

Did you try changing the settings with the lights on to see if you could tell a difference??

I was having a hard time getting the VCDS to accept the coding for fog lights (front/rear) with high-beams and activating fog lights with turn signals, but found that changing the value of byte 4 to "01" made all of these changes at once. Not sure if I found something new, but it was the only thing that worked for me, anyway.

Blake did you make the change in adaptation or in long coding?

I was trying to manually change the bit values in the long coding helper since there weren't check boxes like many of the other VCDS mods, but when I would exit and click "do it", I was getting an error saying no changes had been made. When I would go back into the long coding helper, it was the same original values for all byte 4 bits so my changes were obviously not being saved. For whatever reason, I tried changing the byte 4 value to "01" to see what it would do to the bits and it changed them to exactly what I wanted!

It is tricky without the check boxes for sure. You have to make sure after you do the changes you click on another filed for them to take. I made my own label file so I have check boxes for everything although I know it deosn't help everyone here.

HOWEVER!! Itsdubc and I are collaborating on an online Longcoder that would allow you to put in your current coding, check off what ever boxes you need then just copy and paste the new coding into VCDS without ever having to change a bit manually. It will make more sense once it's done but it's cool even in it's infancy.

great.. thanks for the brightness adjust with headlights on coding David.. I've set mine to 100 right now, but it might be too bright for the night time.. so I might change it to either 50 or 75.. we'll see.. Also it would be awesome to have remix/shuffle on permanently on with SD cards...

Well there are specific operating items you need to look for. The headlights have to be on and the foglights off. The foglight should then come on when you put your turn signal on OR it will activate when you turn your wheel past a certain point in either direction.

Not sure if that will help. I don't think we have had anyone report this not working yet so hopefully it's something simple.

For me, manually changing the bits would not work. They would revert to their original values as soon as I exited, then when I clicked "do it" I'd get a message saying no changes were made. Instead, I changed the actual byte 4 value to 01 and that made all the foglight changes take effect, with the correct bits automatically changed. Hopefully this works for you as well.

blake after u change the values manually u have to press the down arrow key to set the Lcode, then hit exit and u will see the new code, then do it! I had the same wtf moment when i did some coding this week.

    Well thats good to hear..

I was thinking about this one a bit. I wonder if it works during the day if you have the light sensor. Or does the car figure you don't need them. I'll have to try this once I get my car back together.

No idea. Try and change your coding back. Maybe you changed something else by accident. You can find your original coding in the debug folder in the VCDS directory on your computer. If that doesn't fix it you may just need to go through the output tests and recalibrate your lights. You may want to try that first, there is a basic settings and out tests button in vcds when you go into the module.

Hey guys, sorry to revive this old thread but I'm trying to get the fog lights to stay on with the high beams but for some reason I only see bit 6 in byte 4 under [09 – Cent. Elect.]. There are no other bits present in the menu. Is there something special I need to do? I have a 2011 Q5 with the 3G MMI. Thanks.

When you say you just see bit 6, do you mean for just with the checkboxes? If that is the case, you should still see the 8 bits listed in yellow font above where the checkboxes are (kind of like 00101101 or something). Then you can just change the bit 6 to 0 or 1 or whatever is opposite.

Also, sorry if stupid question, but you have updated to the latest ross tech software, right? Good luck!
