Is a RS4 your daily driver?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm just curious as to those that own a RS4, do you use it as a daily driver? Or is it more of a specialty car saved for weekend drives etc? My daughter (2.5 yrs old) loves going for a ride in daddy's car and even cheers me on from the back seat "Faster daddy. Faster." Mine is used as a DD. But I only commute about three miles to work and it's not necessarily the first choice for family outings (still paranoid about door dings etc). Aloha!

Semi-DD, if that makes sense...I don't take it to work since I have to park in the streets but I do use it when going to the gym and the girlfriend's house after work.

Semi DD for me too. When the salt hits I drive her minimally. During the summer I drive her alot! I'm about as anal as one comes to door dings/scratches and yet I still seem to have a few.

DD for me but I work from home = no real commute. I do use it for client meetings and other errands I may have. I do drive it 12 months a year even though I too am anal about cleaning it and worried about door dings etc. I'm the idiot who parks 3 miles from a store front just to avoid being around other cars. I probably average about 7K miles per year. I use the 600RR a lot in the summer when it makes sense and I also use my wifes MDX for home depot trips, hauling needs etc.

Weekend car for me. I just traded in my old DD, a '03 540 for an Acura RDX for the wife. Took her IS300 as my DD, and then picked up the RS. When it gets warm out, I do plan on driving it to work, etc, but I'm lucky enough to have the option of another car in case of construction, bad weather, etc.

It is a daily driver for me in the sense that I use it for real world things, like going to work, running errands, transporting kids etc. However, I do not drive it in the winter when the roads are full of muck and grime. I'll take it out after a fresh snowfall, but that is purely for fun. So I guess you could call it a seasonal daily driver if that makes any kind of sense.

DD for me, for about a year now, have put about 12K on it. I bought it with 37K, and it already had a bunch of rock chips, but since I have gotten it those have increased about 100 fold. It drives me a little nuts after I wash it cos they are so obvious, but relatively speaking this has been the least babied car I have ever owned (aesthetically, I still baby it mechanically with frequent fluid changes, etc.), I just don't have time or money for babying it right now. I figure when I care I will just get the front clip repainted right and then get a clear bra or something on it... if it wasn't chipped when I bought it would have done it then.

It seems just as fast with the rock chips, and I hardly ever see it from the outside, so I try not to worry about it, getting easier with time. This winter really put it to the test, and with the Blizzaks on it, the perfect car for commuting, not one close call yet and I am still empowered to navigate traffic with ease. I cannot imagine having this bad boy in the garage and driving a beater in the winter, that would be just about pointless (unless it was another Quattro maybe, but it would have to be another RS4, cos I love drving this thing, the highlight of may dy to and from work).

Only car. I drive it 25 miles to work and 25 miles home. EVERYDAY.
45,000 miles in just over 2 years.
    3M clear bra
    3 sets of tires
    12 details per year
    2 engine cleanings per year
may pull manifold and undo carbon build-up
serious love everytime i walk up to it.

considering a convertible R8 when it's released, or maybe picking up a low mileage R8 coupe when spyder is released

Yup, mine is a daily driver. I have about a 10 mile drive to work, and then about a five mile drive to school. I also take it on road trips occasionally, nothing to serious.... just down to Tucson or up to Pinetop/Payson. I have been lucky as far as dings/ scratches go but I do go out of my way to avoid getting them in the first place. About two weeks after I got the car someone dinged my left rear quarter panel, which is actually being repaired by PDR at Audi North Scottsdale today. Should have her back tomorrow, got a couple things done. Oil change, dial in the suspension, fix the door ding, alignment, and color match the side markers in Daytona Grey. Cant wait to get it back, although my loaner isnt a bad car either (my dads S5) lol. Anyway, yes its my DD, and I love every second of it!

My only car so DD for me as well. I have had a couple other cars that I was paranoid about. This one not so much. No one knows what it is and they just leave it alone. It is a special car but not in the sense that it attracts a lot of attention. That is what I like about the car.

I work from home most days and go into the office maybe one day a week, and when I do it's less than a 10 mile commute. We have 3 cars (soon to be 4) for 2 drivers, but the RS4 keys are the ones I always grab. I've had it about 1 1/2 years and just turned 20k, so I'm driving it somewhere! It's a fabulous car in all seasons and I unless the snow is too deep for it I'll drive it anytime.

My 2 1/2 year old loves going for rides in 'Daddy's car' and always makes 'Vrroom Vrooom!' sounds when he says that.

Where in Hawaii are you? We go to Maui every January and I occasionally see Audis here and there, but it looked like the Audi dealer is now gone from where it was.

Thanks for all of the responses. I was fortunate enough to be able to swing getting this car (used CPO). It's one of my dream cars. Actually always wanted an E46 M3, but with our daughter the two door just wasn't practical. With the price you pay for it, I feel bad not driving it all over the place, but at the same time I don't want anything to happen to it. One of my previous cars was an 04 R32 which I thought was special (at 5000 produced) and loved. But when I learned that approx 2500 B7 RS4 made it over here, this car seemed even that much more unique.

I'm on Oahu. There's only one Audi dealer in Hawaii as far as I know (here in Honolulu). I'm looking forward to getting back to the mainland sometime when I can get to some longer, more open roads. Until then I'll enjoy it as much as I can on this little island.

DD for me as well. I do a mostly highway driving, approx.10-12k a year. But with two kids 13 and 10 I also do a fair amount of general schlepping etc. This car seems well suited to most conditions but I really try to run it in the triple digits on the highway quite a bit when im solo. I dont abuse it but i drive it fairly aggressively with the rpms almost always in the 4500-7000 range hoping to limit carbon issues. I also owned an E46 M3 and I enjoy this car much more, especially with kids and a wife. You will enjoy it!

DD for me. The car is just too darn practical to consider it a specialty car for me. I commute about 20 miles total a day, but it also sits in the garage a lot when I'm out of town on business trips. The fiance and I take her car out for parking downtown and things like that. I've put about 10k miles on it in the last year.

So far, no door dings. I seem to have gotten them in random places in past cars, so crossing my fingers for now and continuing to be as careful as I can when parking in public lots and grocery stores.

Like a few people here, I work from home so my daily commute is measured more in steps rather than miles. That said, the RS4 is my daily driver year round which I'm guessing means roughly 10k/year barring any road trips.

Personally, I hate door dings as much as the next guy - I also park in the back of the lot - but no matter how pretty the car may be, I find it to be a whole lot prettier I'm behind the wheel and driving. Figure out what about the car makes you happy and then do it; for me it happens to be driving

Daily driver for me also....only about 6 miles to work each day, but kids to preschool, groceries, etc. Average about 7K miles/year. Car is going in for intake cleaning on Monday! Gotta love those flashing CEL's at startup!

Like you my prevoius car was a 04 R32. Picked up a 07 CPO w/ 32k miles last August with the intent of it being my only car. However, with a daily commute of 30 miles ( soon be be 50 ) I wanted to keep the miles down seeing I plan on having this car for many years to come. Ended up getting a 96 Passat w/ 56k miles for a "commuter/winter beater".

So basically mine is a 3 season second car.
