    Question LED front turn signals?

has anyone converted the front amber halogen bulbs, to LEDs? just curious. i think it may go well with the LED mirror turn signals, and LED rear signals

i wish there was a VAG code to enable the LED DRLs as a turn signal.

I wish to know about this too.

    According to Sylvania, we use
    Front turn signal
    2827
    7506LL

    Compatible LED bulb 1156 (BA15S)
    http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...n.html%23BA15s

However, I also read this from the superbrightleds website.

Turn signal issues with LED bulbs

LED brake/tail lamps will not flash with thermal flasher units due to their extremely low current draw. Also, with stock flasher units, the turn signals may flash faster than normal (Hyper-Flash). These installations will require an electronic flasher unit, available in our car bulb shopping category (for some vehicles) or at your auto parts store. Try to find flashers designed to work with LED bulbs, they will say "LED compatible". Often HEAVY DUTY flashers will also work with LED bulbs.

We offer some LED Flashers in our Tail/Brake Turn Signal Bulb category but we do not know which one (if any) will fit your vehicle. You will have to compare the pin-out of your flasher with the pin-outs of the flashers we offer, to see if we have a match, BEFORE you order one. Sorry but we do not have a flasher application list or the expertise to tell you which of our flashers will fit your vehicle.

Another fix is the installation of Load Resistors which are wired across (in parallel with) the turn signal bulbs to simulate the load of a standard filament bulb. We also have these available in our car bulb shopping category.

i think if it did anything, it would flash fast. but that can be fixed with the inline load resistor

By looks of that quote this seems to be a bit more involved than it seems. I am in the process of "LED outing" my car so I was curious to see that posted. Is putting the inline resitor a electrical engineering skill or can someone with moderate hobby skills do the trick.

Well maybe you can try the electronic led flashers

Has someone actually done this yet or is this a suggested mod? If I were to do it does anyone know what the pins mean? It says check your vehicle to find the correct pins. Would you have to take out the entire headlight housing to replace the bulb or is it a simple pop-the hood and pull out the bulb?

i doubt you have to remove the entire headlight, but then again, it IS an audi...lol. An in-line load resister is very simple. all you would have to do is splice it in line with the power wire that leads to the turn signal. The 'fast flash' happens when you have an all halogen flasher system, and then add LEDs. The LEDs dont draw enough current, and tricks the car into thinking that a bulb is out, thus the fast flash. Im not sure if the A4 has load resisters on all of the other LED turn signals, or if its all done by computer. someone figure this out damn it. lol

Well gonna take it out anyways because in case the flasher was caused by reasons other than load resistor not in place, i will have to buy that electronic LED flasher, and needed to know the type, etc, etc, etc.

    Please post updated info.
I am very interested in this mod as well.
Today, I saw a new bmw 3 series with LED front turn signal (i think the car came with it as stock) and it was so bright and looked awesome.

    Update:

There may not be any direct replacement bulbs for both front signal light and rear brake lights.

For front, Audi used some of their own mounting (I believe), and not just a bulb replacement. A LED replacement is possible, however modding will probably be involved.

As for rear, I believe we use Single Contact Dual Intensity lights (For Brakes). Did 10 mins of googling and i didn't manage to find any LED that is Single Contact Dual Intensity.

Replacing the front signal light REQUIRES you to remove the whole headlight unit. Follow Anthony's headlight removal guide for more details.
Then, you have to take off both the LED and HID ballast in order to gain access to the bulb safely.

    Tools i've used:
    2 x Torx screw drivers (I believe they were 20 and 25)
    1 x 20 inch long clamp
    approx 15mins of time

Heres some pics on the front signal light

Thanks for sharing further information on this.
Were you able to turn the bulb to remove it from the socket/bulb holder?
    Or, is it one piece?

I was unable to remove the bulb from the socket, as it seems to be soldered together. I wasnt prepared to pull out the bulb as I did not have any kind of spare on hand.

Anyone try this LED bulb? iJDMTOY claims that the PY24W fits our cars. Doesn't seem to look like the one pictured above...

    http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Can-bus-BMW...24w-led-2s.htm

EDIT: Nevermind. It seems that these are the Weisslicht bulbs. Another thread (and the picture) indicates that our bulbs are actually PH24WY. Don't know why Audi had go with such a unique bulb for the signals!

^Those do not fit at all and will not work. I decided to be the guinea pig and ordered it. Ended up returning and getting my refund.

WTF! You have to remove the whole headlight to replace 1 bulb? Are you kidding me?

i think they're just removing the headlight housing for easier access to the bulb, not disassembling the housing.

akaisuzu: does the bulb come out of that connector?

I took mine apart yesterday and painted the bulbs silver. It would be a royal pain in the ass, if not impossible, to change the turn signals without removing the headlights. No point in trying since the headlights come out so easy. Four screws and three of them you only have to loosen.

Quote Originally Posted by ricktsd View Post

Yes it does. I managed it just to see if I could do it, and to paint them without over spray on the connector. Yeah, you'll never see it but I'm OCD like that.
It will come apart in three pieces, the tabs sticking out to the sides in akaisuzu's picture "bulb view 1" are glued, you need to pry them out to break the bond, then you can lift the bulb with the smaller black holder (it has the part number printed on it) out of the main socket.
Then if you want to get the bulb out of it's socket, you'll need a heat gun. The prongs are squared, but the holes you have to pull them through are round. if you heat up the base enough you can slide the bulb out. I broke one prong doing it and had to get creative with a paperclip a bench grinder and solder.
