Redline Speed Worx: Cylinder Head Carbon Build Up Sea Foam Service Limitations

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
FSI CARBON BUILD UP from a vehicle with under 60k and Upgraded Turbo System, this cylinder head showed "Mild" Build up compared to other vehicles we have serviced

Un-Cleaned Valves Removed from Cylinder Head

Sea Foam Cleaning on Two Valves while they were still in the Cylinder Head VS. Un-cleaned

These Two Valves were Sea Foamed while still in the head, as you can see its still difficult to clean the back sides

Sea Foam Clean Ports while head was still fully assembled VS. Un Cleaned Ports

As you can see from the pictures a Sea Foam Treatment Service to clean the cylinder head / valves only works to an extent ! Cylinder head is currently being steam cleaned, all the valves will be fully cleaned and re installed with new Valve Guide Seals.

sorry but what exactly are you offering, sea foam obviously doesnt work. so you have a 2 step process of sea foam and steam cleaning? any before and after pics of the steam cleaning step to compare?

I'm not offering any service here, just looking to share information with the community that by only using a Sea Foam Treatment with the cylinder head completely assembled can only help "to a point". The cylinder head will be ready to be re-assembled this afternoon, just waiting on valve guide seals !

I will post more pictures so everyone can see the before and after !

gotcha, definately good to know. Ive heard that Meth helps break down carbon build up. is that true. and if so would meth and sea foam do the trick?

Again, spraying Methanol on the vehicle will help to an extent but again, is not a 100% guaranteed solution.

Running water/meth actually does a pretty good job of keeping the combustion chamber clean. Steam cleaning every time you go WOT.
It helps on the back of the valves somewhat as well, but won't keep them squeaky clean.

so what would the labor costs on something like this be? to have my valves taken out and cleaned... i mean i probably wouldnt do this until around 60,000 miles...which would be in like 3-4 years for me

We charge approx $1350.00 ( Labor ) + Parts.... which includes removing the cylinder head and re-installing on the vehicle, it is quite a bit less if a customer brings us just the head to be rebuilt.

For a normal carbon cleaning on a 2.0t the price is 500 for labor plus parts.... but this was a much more serious level of cleaning due to the customers request. We do not recommend nor encourage people to go to this extent when worrying about carbon clean-up, this was just a to show how much sea foam treatments leave behind.

Spraying Meth does work somewhat, but you have to use it from Day one for it to keep the vales somewhat clean

I see they aren't perfect squeaky clean... but SeaFoam did a darn good job taking good amount of gunk off, no? Do you think another Sea Foam treatment might do the trick? Now I wonder how well the BG Fuel Induction service works.

So wait... how does Sea Foaming work while a couple valves were out? Did you just treat them with sea foam or did you let the engine suck in the seafoam while the car was running?

You dont pour seafoam into the gas tank. Its sucked in through a vacuum line from the intake manifold if i remember correctly.

It can actually be added to your fuel, oil and your intake system (intake: through PCV or vacuum hose).

You can add it to anything really! But if you add it to the tank it will only be effective to the pistons really becuase of the direct injection. It does not hit the valves.

SO does this rebuild just thoroughly clean the valves and ports but then eventually it will build up again, right? Or are you offering a solution?

not a solution, just a temp fix, but a necessary fix to many vehicles specially 3.2's
Selling Nogoro blue Alcantara door panels. Will fit b6/b7 a4/s4/rs4. In great condition, originally wanted $600 shipped but dropped price to $500 shipped. Check my classifieds for pictures. I want these gone, will include extra door clips if requested. PM me if you want pictures of them installed or anything else I want these gone so make me an offer and we'll talk.
