Just got my car back from the dealership today and after a few key cycles the CEL popped on. Car feels normal. Drives normal. Sounds normal. I actually do know when something seems off with my car but the car runs strong and seems fine. Just seems strange that it was just at the dealership.

I am not exactly sure but it came on after the car had been sitting outside in the cold (temp in the teens) and it started up but I got right out of the car because I had to go back inside to get the baby and her things. Maybe a coilpack that smoothed out after the car warmed up?

I know this is a crap shoot but any thoughts?

Update: CEL actually went out this morning but stopped to have it checked on the way to work. Fault code ended up being an intake manifold flapper valve code. How he explained it to me is that it changes airflow on a cold start for emissions reasons. He cleared it and told me that if the CEL returns the part will be replaced under warranty.

I didn't actually stop for a service appointment...my neighbor is an Audi service manager locally and he just told me to stop by and he would check the code.

i always check everything after i get it back from the dealer..because i dont trust any of the dealer mechanics..

you would definately feel a coilpack..the car would shake like a bitch..

could be 1 of many things, go check for codes

Yep, back to the dealer for codes. Can't be anything serious if the car feels normal I guess.

could just be a cylinder misfire, not a bad coil pack. this has happened to me many times, more so when its cold out. take it to an auto parts store like advanced and had them pull the code for free. They'll clear it for free there too. If thats all it is then its probably not worth going back to the dealership since they cant really do anything. First time it happened to me the dealership charged me 100 dollars just to clear the code and not actually fix anything.

My car is still under the original factory warranty so they won't charge me. After that my car is CPO until may 2012 or 100000 miles.

Yeah, I already talked to the service manager of the dealership that is on my way to work (he lives 2 doors down!) and he said bring it in first thing and he will take care of it. He offered to bring a scan tool home from work tomorrow but I might as well stop on the way and if something is wrong I can get a loaner and they can fix it.

On a side note it is good to know that the auto parts store can pull the codes. I was under the impression that Audi software was required to do so.

    Thanks for the responses!

Are you sure there is not a bigger problem? I would have a look at it if it has happened multiple times.

Yep, ive had the coils replaced twice (first time was the day after i bought the car) and the same cylinder misfire 3 times. It hasnt happened in a long time so im not stressing it. It's the same symptoms you described, just a check engine light and everything is running fine.

I've had the problem before... the fault code should still be stored....

They said "You know sometimes a little speckle of carbon gets on a sensor and just causes it to go haywire and after some driving just burns away and the issue never comes back"... I told my service person that her statement is not reassuring at all.

I just ran into the same issue. The CEL came on in November and after pulling the code, the dealer had to order the part. So, they cleared the code and told me they'd call me when the part came in. I ran without issues for the past three months, and finally got the "Intake Flap Motor" replaced under warranty. I never had another CEL and I don't really notice any difference.

This is apparently a pretty common failure on our cars, so I guess I'm glad I got it fixed. CPO, baby...
