    Car- 2001 A4 frontrak/TIp
95000 miles with K04 Hammer file

The problem is when the vehicle is in drive it has trouble shifting through gears. You can step on the gas and watch the boost go to 20psi but the car barely goes anywhere until it gets into 5th gear. The car shifts real funny from 2nd to 3rd gear, it shifts to fast. You can put the transmission in tip mode and it runs perfectly fine.

The fluid was changed when the turbo was installed at 90000miles and everthing has ran fine until now. I have VAGed many times and no codes in the ecu or tcm. I have also swapped between 2 different tcm's and no change.

    Re: Tiptronic Help

Had a MTM K04 setup, GIAC tip chip, L10 Valve body on a '00 quattro
The trans was easily overwhelmed with the torque that the k04 could produce.
It would not hold 5th at its torque peak. I tried the GIAC tip chip not much help the shifts were better, but still didn't let the car pull.
The L10 valve body helped far more than the chip ever did. When in tip mode if I selected 5th it would stay in 5th and the car would pull like never before.
Just an fyi the trans in the car when the chip then the vb was installed had less than 6k miles replaced under CPO just before the warranty expired.

    Re: Tiptronic Help

One of the TCM's I have has the Giac tip chip in it and it stiill does the same as the other TCM. I just find it wierd that it started doing it all of a sudden and why does the car run fine when in tip mode? I can shift through gears fine when in tip mode and it holds in all gears and doesn't slip. When in D though, it seems like it can;t figure out what gear to be in.

    Re: Tiptronic Help

What...have you ever had your tranny looked at? I don't want to only drive in tip mode all the time. Why does it work fine in tip and not in D. I have only had the set up for about 5000 miles and I haven't even realy ran it that hard. Thereis no way the tranny is that weak.

    Re: Tiptronic Help

Mine did the same, until the VB went in. After that D or Tip it was fine. The tip chip was useless IMO

That was the best part of the car. The chip, and the speed shifts.
Even the new A4 is chipped. And much faster than the k04 1.8t ever was.

    Re: Tiptronic Help

If it works fine in Tiptronic, under manual control, and goes wacky in (D)rive, then it would seem to be a software problem. The TCU doesn't know what gear to be in, probably because the tune has scaled the engine load values or MAF values or something like that. It would be fine on a manual, but the TCU uses some engine values to calculate torque and decide the shift points and shift firmness. When the values are off the map it doesn't know what to do. In tiptronic it just does what you tell it, so everything is fine. That's my theory anyhow. I think a tip chip from the same tuner might help, but you'd have to ask them.

I wouldn't take my advice though. Take the advice of the persons who actually have this problem. If they say valve body, that's probably what you want to do.

I have 2 TCM's and one of them has the Giac tip chip in it, both act the same way, do you think it could be the MAF readings are throwing it off?

    Re: Tiptronic Help

$700 for an upgraded valve body from IPT. I went that route and shifts were REALLY nice! I believe its not that hard to install. I have it laying around in my automatic transmission at home but im not so sure what other transmissions it would work in.

I can understand if you're an automatic, however if your car is quattro its a whole different story! I went T28 while I was still auto. just manual swap it!!

Bought the VB out right, that was expensive. I know now as biketsai said they are about $700 for a rebuild on yours.
If you check with IPT of Level Ten you will find that the VB is the same up to 2003 that is where the yellow wires disappear and then are no longer interchangeable.
I bought mine with the thoughts of swapping it into a B6 but then got a great deal on a loaded B7.

Do you know if its compatible between a quattro transmission and a FWD?
