man I'm really grateful that you're doing it now nickg.. I will be in the same position as you in a months time and I hope I can manage alright.

So everything is working fine now except for the highbeam?

I wish I have all the equipment now so I can do it at the same time

    Nick,

In an effort to be clear, please use the correct Byte numbering positions in your questions. All coding starts at Byte 0. When you say Byte 1 or 2, no one here has any idea what exactly you mean!!!

I don't mean to sound terse, but we can not help you unless you use some specificity in your coding declarations on this forum.

    Thanks,

the first two numbers in the coding are BYTE 0

When I said byte 2 I meant byte 2 - the first byte in the coding is 0 - so you correctly changed byte 2 to 10
byte 0 (originally 69) needs to be changed to 26 otherwise the xenon lights (the actually xenon bulbs) will not work properly. When my lights were installed, I ran them for about 10 mins without changing the coding
    Here is what I experienced
    - while the xenon lights seamed to work, one of them went out after about 10 mins and the other flickered
    - when you turn them on, they flash an unusual red color for about a second

changing byte 0 from 69 to 26 fixes both of these issues...

also, you need to change 14/15 from 5F5F to either 5D5D or 1D0D if you want your high beams to work...

I'm pretty sure I have tried to just change the byte 0 from 69 to 26 but it kept giving out of range error, I'll try that again tonight, and actually I've noticed the same issues of flickering and flash as well

when changing byte 0, did you try to change it in the long code helper? you should try to just change the actual long code. hope this works

    Thanks

I noticed that in long code helper when you change the value of a byte and click on Exit while the changed byte is still selected, the long code turns up incorrect, but if after changing the byte value in helper and you select another byte and click on exit, the long code turns up fine, in any case now that I've actually used the software once last night, tonight things should be easier

yea - it is kinda crucial to change byte 0 to 26 - otherwise your headlights (when turned on at night) will only be headlights for ~10 mins... not to mention the damage you are doing to the bulbs with the intense startup...

where are you getting this "out of range error" error? - does it show up on the dis screen?

on the software (VCDS?) screen on the laptop when I press the DO IT button, I'll take screenshots when I get home, in probably 2-3 hours

Found this post, I'm not alone http://audiforum.us/b8-platform/9098...html#post73207
He is from UK so an RHD version just like me
I just retrofitted the bi-xenon lights to my car today, but despite all attempts to change byte 0 from 69 to 26, VAG COM returns an error message. As a result, I still don't have high beam/passing light for the car.

Does anyone have a similar problem? Thanks.

that is really strange... can you post your long coding of 09?

also, if someone with RHD and stock LED bi-xenons is reading this, would you be able to post your coding too...

By the way, I randomly tested some numbers above and under 26, only 23 seem to be accessptable and actually lights work fine on this setting (I guess), thinking that a random number can harm the lights or the car I quickly changed everything back to default

My lights arrived today, with no apparent damage. I feel very lucky. Now i have to wait for Kufatec to ship the harness's. they are still on back order. Also the lights came with two extra brackets in an L shape. I don't have time to take a photo, but if anyone can tell me what they might be I would appreciate it. I'll send a pic tonight to help out.

i believe the halogen brackets that came with the car are compatible with the xenon headlights, so you can just use the ones already on your car.

did you try to copy and paste the old code into the new code section, change the first 2 numbers from 69 to 26 and then click do it yet?

Yes and it didn't accept the code, I'm wondering if AU/UK models use a different code than 26, 23 worked for me and I'll be able to provide the AU model code within 2 weeks as soon as my new car arrives (I've sold my current one which didn't have xenons, the new one will have xenons)

I think I found the problem, this post explains the issue http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showpost....8&postcount=23

Apparently, J519 controller (power module?) has to be replaced in order to get the car to accept the first byte as 26, otherwise however, the xenons will work but without high beam support
as mentioned in the link above, the part number for this module is 8K0 907 063 D and it has to be activated by an Audi service centre

I wonder why we have 8K0 907 063 stock controllers while you guys have 8K0 907 063 D stock controllers...

It wound up being a little over a grand and took two weeks for delivery. But it took him three weeks to actually ship them so it took a month and a half to really get here. I got news yesterday from Kufatec that the harness came in but they did not have enough
to fill all the orders. Mine being one of them. You don't want to sell me yours do you? LOL.

    codificacion

The gray cables of the adapter kufatec, they are placed of the following form:

    1. Net of on board (under the steering wheel) conector brown color of 17 poles to the pin 9 2. Net of on board (under the steering wheel) conector red color of 17 poles to the pin 3

    Go into 09 Central Electronics

    Click on Coding-07

    Select Long Coding Helper

    1) Change the first byte to 26 (Xenons will turn on properly after this)

    2) Check Byte 02 Bit 4 (LED strip as DRL)

    3) Change byte 14 and 15 to 5D (For the hi-beam to work)

ONLY, this conversion works if the net of I approach, is the version ended in "D" For example, in this photo the tests(proofs) have been realized by the net of I approach ended in 063 "A", since IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE, the long light does not work. And have fis error.
Only works 063 "D" revision, and no have fis errors

just to give an update, I've been given a loan car till the one I ordered arrives here,
the loan car is an A4 B8 2010 1.8T without any package not even comfort and of course with halogens, surprisingly enough it does accept 26 for byte 0
part number of J519 controller on this car is 8K0 907 063 K, on my previous car it was 8K0 907 063 without the K at the end
that's a good news for me, I can install the Xenons retrofit kit I've ordered on someone's car and at least cover my loss

I sold my car and the new one I ordered comes with Xenons (and Navigation which are the only reasons why I changed my car), even if I were to swap controllers it had to be activated on both cars by Audi service centre using their online portal so they would obviously know what I've done

this is very interesting - so there are different "Versions" controllers for headlights in our cars... I wonder if my successful conversion is due partly to luck..

I'm out of town right now, but I'll check which controller I have when I get home...

How do you remove that little magenta clip that holds the wires in the brown and magenta 17 pin connecter?

    very carefully

if i remember right, it slides out a little one way, and then you can pop it out

another update too: after i got my car back from the dealership (was in a slight accident and the body shop sent it to them to do some stuff) they had recoded my ecu and changed a bunch of shit. Basically i got lucky my friend was home with his vag-com or else i wouldnt have had headlights that night hahaha...pain in the ass!

Did you ever get your hi-beams working??

And the dealership just hooks you up to their VAS and wipes out everything to nice default settings!!! If you mod, you need your own cable, or lots of 12 paks kept chillin' in a small cooler in the trunk ready for those who come turn on your headlights in the middle of the night with a re-code! heh

yep - that is partly why I bought mine... - I'm still contemplating if I should tell the dealer not to touch the coding during my 5,000... I mean, if they did, they would probably get some errors and maybe even damage my lights...

just tell them you changed some of the vag settings and to only update the ecu if necessary.
