Just curious, the wiring thru the firewall, is there any splicing or is that a plug into the socket? I guess what I'm asking is, is it un-doable without someone noticing the wiring was tampered with.

There is no splicing, etc... What happens is, at the end of the two extra wires there are "pins" that lock into two connectors under the dash - as far as I know - they are not easy to remove once installed - so I would not do this thinking you can easily undo it..

Just ordered my brand new e-codes from ebay.de. With shipping comes out to $904.00
Should get here in 10-14 days via DHL. Let's see if I get lucky and not have to pay any customs...
Here's a few photos snapped by the seller.

Am I gonna get hassled by NYPD for running E-codes?

Some states are more particular than others when it comes to a state run inspection program. I think I heard once that US cars must have amber reflector withing 12" of the front of the vehicle. YMMV.

At best no one notices. At worse, you switch your eurocodes for US spec ones with someone on here who wants them and lives in a state (FL, CA, etc...) where they dont bust your ballz. IF you have bi Xenons already, switching to eurocodes is like a 20 min job!

Good luck, and for goodness sakes, when you VAG, run an Autoscan prior to the install to capture all your long coding. We can help you with the coding and installing when they arrive, if you're doing it your self.

You guys got me hooked. I just couldn't resist. :)
I've got the same car as you I think, so I'd think it would be similar coding.

I've got a couple of options for install, either go with a good friend of my brother's who is an ASE mechanic or try calling this place:
    http://www.tyrolsport.com/

I will remind whoever does the work to do an autoscan first. If they can save the data to a file that I can take with me that would be great.
This way when I trade-in or sell the car later I have the option to revert back.

It's kinda doubtful that you'll be able to return back to halogen after this mod without the tell-tale signs of the install. What I meant to say is, yes, swap in light housing/lamps and put back stock plugs then a recode might work. However, you will have to contend with the 2 wires landed into the harness for the high beams of the Kufatec adapters. They can't be removed easily, unless you have a tool like DavidB8s. Maybe they can stay in their, but maybe they need to be out of the harness to revert back to stock. Anyone want to test that out? heh Plus you have the hole in the firewall to cover up somehow. An Audi teh will find these I imagine fairly simply.

Anyways, I think it might be more of a permanent upgrade to the vehicle, heh in all senses of the word.

When you run the autoscan w VAG Com, you just hit save and it puts all the data in a txt file in the "logs" dir. Each file title is the car VIN + current milage (km).

Plus you'll have the hole in the firewall is prolly permanent.

Actually, I think it would be fairly simple to revert back to stock w/o trace of install - you can de-pin kufatec adapter from harness under steering wheel, and pull the wires back through the firewall - mine are run through the ECU compartment, so there were no modifications done to the car...

That being said - I would never revert back...

Ahh good to know, as I thought I read that the once pinned into the harness, the pins go in but once, and one way only!

Software is free to download but I believe the cable came with a disc as well. That cable wont work for you. This is the one you need : http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/hex-usb+can.html

No. That cable will not work with your car as it is "Micro-CAN"
    from Ross-Tech's website:
Low-cost interface designed exclusively for use on cars based on Mk.5 Golf technology. This interface is not backwards compatible with older cars using K-lines for diagnostics, and it is not compatible with some Audi models. See the Micro-CAN technical page for a list of compatible models.

Quote came back from tyrolsport, $200.00 for the install.
Not sure what the fair price would be.

Also, with the vagcom changes, do they retain even after a dealer visit with possible code updates?
Since I have a few weeks to think this through, I am wondering if I should get the ross tech cable myself or will I be good after the intial install?

I think they said they'd be willing to re-vag once after the initial install.

    Decisions... decisions...

The problem with the dealer is when you have changed your coding to add or delete features, you go to the dealer for service and the Tech wipes out all your work. The hook you up and set everything back to day 1 programming. So without the cable, you swap your light coding, everything is all easy Parcheesi. At your 5K service, they revert you back to stock and now your lights dont work, etc...

So you got to tell them not to change your coding, which may "flag" you latter, IMO. So if you get "chipped" your an easy target for them denying coverages via the warranty. I am paranoid, so i just shut up and let them do what they want and I'll switch it back when I get home. The cables $350. that like what, less than 1% of the cars selling price. You have to pay to play, so to speak. Most of the audi folks wouldnt even know you swapped from the P- to P+ lights, I'm guessing.

Just remember to pick up your car in the daytime and recode it when you get home! whee

They flashed mine for some reason back to stock values and had a new shop code for the modules I had manipulated. Took me 2 sec to fix tho!

    Coolwater: YMMV.

    Resale:

This interface acts as a "dongle" for VAG-COM, so the software should be fully functional on any PC you use with the HEX-USB+CAN. However, product support is provided only to the original purchaser. If you buy a second-hand HEX-USB+CAN from someone and want support, you'll still need to pay $99 to register.

The lock beep is useful, it tells you that the car is LOCKED. To confirm this when you unlock, you either get in the car, or not.

I agree... It was cool for like the first day. Now it is just plain annoying... Sometimes when I double click unlock to unlock all doors , I don't hit it fast enough and the car beeps 4 times...

I'm going to revert it back when I hook up my car today - I am also going to enable the battery meter with non-MMI which someone just figured out how do do in the VAG-Com thread

    EUR 780,00 is $1,062.13 USD - that's pretty expensive...

Thanks for all the support guys. So I am trying to get my coding together so I can have either the shop or the mechanic friend set up everything for me. Unfortunately, I did not win the ross tech auction so I'll keep searching for a good used deal.

Can you guys look at these settings to see if I am on target? I basically want to have my LEDs on and at full brightness at all times. Including when the Fogs are on, turn signal is on and when the Projectors are on. I did not see a specific setting for the fogs running with the LEDs. So my guess is that if I turn my light switch to the middle slot, the LEDs will be on and I can use the Fogs also? As right now with lights in off slot, fogs cannot be on.

And I want to add the functionality to open/close windows from the remote.

    SWITCH from Halogen to Xenons:
    Coding of 09-Cent.Electric:
    Coding: 260050B10014A7000001000300001D0D0F1C02080000014100 0000

Turn off amber side markers: (Have to do this for Ecodes from what DavidB8 told me or it'll error)
    [09 - Cent. Elect.]
    [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 10
    Submodule 0
Bit 3 - Set to 0 to disable amber side markers

LED on when turn sign is on while DRL are active only:
    [09 – Cent. Elect.]
    [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 3
Bit 2 - LEDs remain at full brightness with parking lights (1 = active)
Bit 7 - Turn off LED-strip DRLs with indicators (1 = active) (IF I want the LEDs on all the time, including when the LB or HB are on, do I need to do this????)

Use remote control to open windows.
    [Select]
    [46 - Cent. Conv.]
    [Coding - 07]
    [Long Coding Helper]
Click on each of the Byte numbers in line 3) and you'll see the selectable options below.
Check the box for "Comfort Operation: Remote Control active"

I think if your doing the swap for anywhere under 2K that it costs to get the lights from OEM then your doing alright. Deals will come and go..

    Hello,

Looking at the pictures on this thread got me really excited, specially after finally finding the RHD BI-XENON housings which I just ordered earlier today (I currently have halogens on my car)
now I really need some advice on where to get the control units and the bulbs, an ebay seller told me in additional to ballast i'll need LED control units which I have no idea what that is

Also thanks a lot for the pictures and the codes here, I'll probably have to read all of them line by line soon

    P.S. what is e-codes?

    congrats!

In addition to what you already bought, you need:
    2x D3s Xenon bulbs
    2x xenon ballast
2x led ballast (for LED DRL)
oh, you will also need the kufatec adapter if you didn't already order that...

This will take care of the xenon bulbs and ballasts:

The LED ballasts are hard to find - see if you can find them on ebay.de

PS: I did a double take when I saw your username - my name is nick, and my last name starts with g... - nickg - go figure..

hey nickg, just wondering where did you get hold of those RHD BI-XENON housings? I'm looking to get one too but so far only found Audi dealers to source them :(

I'm in Western Australia, btw :)

I ordered mine from eBay UK for about $500 AUD
they drive RHD in UK just like us, I noticed the UK versions have D in the part number while German LHD versions have C (I kindda gabled to be honest)
    These are the part numbers I ordered: Left Headlight housing "8K0 941 029 D" and the right "8K0 941 030 D"

tho I'm not yet sure if everything will work out, I still need to get controller units, bulbs and the adapter

oh sorry I totally missed your reply,
the link you have provided, I've already contacted him (on eBay) and he is the one who told me I need LED DRL controllers, is it something that screws into the headlight housing?

searching through the forums here I found a link and a part number: http://www.audipartsnationwide.com
    the part number: 8K0907472
when searched comes out as: Electrical - Chassis electrical - Headlamps - Control module
Control module, a4, hid headlamp 2009
    $192 USD
    From this thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ighlight=xenon

is this what I need to order in addition to the main ballast and the adapters?
