Cheap solution for a turbo timer? All the newer vipers have the turbo timer feature in the remote start alarms.

I have the viper 5601 i believe. Had it installed on my 2000 tip and so far no complaints. It is the alarm with the remote start and built in kill switch and turbo timer. It pretty cool, because you just push a button and pull out the key from the ignition, lock the doors and walk away. The available settings are 1, 3, 5, and 15 minutes.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Or you could go with Compustar.. Made for either MT or AT's and has built in turbo timer also. I have one on my wife's 3series and had them on previous cars. I just picked up the Compustar Pro which has the 1 mile 2 way remote start alarm distance. Cant go wrong

Cheaper, same thing, and a carbon fiber look remote. I had one but ended up selling it so I could go another route. Works from 1 mile away and my friend has it on his 99 escalade and loves it.

    How do you figure?
Press the button with a locked lock to lock/arm the vehicle
Press the button with an unlocked lock to unlock/disarm the vehicle.
Press the aux button to pop the trunk
press the * button twice to either start or stop the vehicle.

I find mine to be rather simple, and even the wife can handle the same alarm.
(& we all know how wives & electronics mix. lol)

The 5900 is a great alarm, as is the Clifford linked to also. I prefer both of those over the Compustar Pro line, but Compustar would come in as a close 2nd place. (because the other two are the same alarm :P )

DEI all the way. You have Viper, Python, and Clifford to choose from along with Avital and Astroflex. I personally have a Viper 5900 in my Jetta with the Astroflex manual safe piece and it works flawlessly. Brother has the Viper 5901 in his car and that works awesome as well. Ok lets clear some things up ALL NEW DEI REMOTE STARTS are Manual Safe. No one is better whether it be the 5301 the 5701 or the 5901. The only system i would avoid from them would be the 5902. Its never gotten great reviews. Clifford is the best of the three because surprisingly they use better components in the system so there for justifying the price. You pretty much have to choose what style remote you want and go with either Viper, Clifford, or Python. I have tested the 5900 to a mile. From my place of work to my house i have started my vehicle. At that I was at a lower standpoint then my car.

Now in regards to the manual safe procedure its is something that everybody does when you stop your car.

1.Bring vehicle to stop and take out of gear.
    2.Engage Parking Brake.
    3.Remove foot from brake.
4.Press Remote start button on remote within 15 secs of removing foot from brake.
5.Remote will give audible chirp and parking lights will flash 5 times for confirmation.
6.Remove key from ignition. Car will remain running.
    7.Exit vehicle.
8.Upon exiting vehicle lock vehicle and car will shut off. This confirms the car is in manual safe mode.

If you don't do that the car will not start. The only thing that sucks about manual safe starters is that because of the procedure say i you wanted to get something out of the car. When you unlock the car and open the door you break the sequence. Reason is that when you open the door say u get in the car and slam it in gear. When you remote start the car after bye bye car. BUT there is a way around this. This is a pain in the a$$ if your forgetful. Remote start the car before entering it and you won't break the sequence.

Other then the above i would go with a ultra start system. The biggest reasoning is that the offer all the same basic features but the remotes are made of stainless steel which is cool.

It doesn't always work that well. Sometimes it only locks the front two doors so even though its chirped it hasn't done its job. then you press lock twice then it finally locks the doors but it still doesn't want to start the car. The range isn't as good as the CodeAlarm remote starters I've had, so that is a hassel that you can't keep walking because the car is taking too long to lock and now wont start for you if you want it to run while so you have to walk back into range. I'm just talking from only experiencing one. maybe it was installed wrong.

    Re: Viper alarm/starter...turbo timer???

^^ That is all install related, not a problem with the alarm itself.
I have had the same Viper 2way in my car for the last 8 years (bought the 791 the DAY it replaced the 790) and it has worked instantly, flawlessly, & trouble free since.
I am an installer & 99% of the time alarm "issues" are actually install issues, and easily rectified.

Code Alarm is owned by AudioVox, and has been for quite a while now. They are not as nice as DEI's products, or as nice as they once were. I have a Viper 791, which is the old version of the 5900 and NOT the extended range version. Mine works easily from 2 blocks away in a downtown parking garage, and I can start my car 5 blocks away as I leave campus. Antenna location is crucial for good range, and install quality is even more crucial.
The SST versions (extended range) can work even farther away, and surprisingly quick for the long transmission distances.

Yea i agree with Audiophyle. Whoever did the install messed it up. The only real downside other then what i mentioned is the way in which the system has to do the factory alarm disarm. I believe it unlocks the drivers door. ALTHOUGH even though the car is started the Viper alarm is still armed. So open the door and the alarm goes off. If you have somebody competent who did the install then the car isn't using a starter kill and much rather something else. So again my vote still remains with DEI or Ultra Start. Only thing is i don't think the have a XK module for our cars. Or even if they do you still have to use a 556U and lose a key. Last i checked valet keys ain't cheap.

I have the 5701 with the LCD screen. Press the function button twice and the remote starter button to operate the turbo timer function. Remove the key, get out the car and hit the lock button. The car will cut off after whatever set time you use. They claim a 1 mile range, but that can be off because of the tall building in my neighborhood. The remote also has different backlight colors. I use the red backlight setting to match the interior lights.
