    32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So often on car web sites, all you see are questions being asked about problems folks are having. I have had my 2008 A4 2.0 Quattro manual tranny since September of 2007 and it currently has 32,000 miles on it, and aside from preventative maint. (5,000 mi. M1 0W-40 oil changes), and swapping winter tires and summer tires (I live in Wisconsin), nothing has gone wrong. Haven't had to use my warranty once yet.

Aside from wishing the A4 handled a bit more like my former 01' BMW 325, I have no complaints (the sport A4 was a bit too harsh on our crappy Wisconsin roads, and the BMW was a bit stiffer than my non-sport A4, but not at all harsh). Plus, the A4 was quite a bit less expensive and doesn't have RFT's, no dip stick, etc.

    Love the A4!

i would be surprised if 08 had problems as early as 50k miles. my friends 06 with 50-55k had only a few O2 sensors replaced, and he changes oil every 10-11k

yeah, we actually talked about it yesterday.....he said he did his own "web research" and is not convinced that he need to change oil every 5k because oil is syntetic

43k. Cam follower was on its way out when I popped the pump off about 6k miles ago. Still good on coilpacks, replaced the DV as preventative maintenance, and got a Eurojet pcv kit. Nothing has gone wrong though!

    Re: 32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

Bought my car July 4th, 2008 with 6 miles on the car and now it has close to 25k miles. The car has been in the shop for about 2 weeks total for things ranging from the airbag just randomly going off, to the headlight switch peeling, and a couple other small defects. Love the car, but it hasn't been the most trouble free car I've ever owned.

almost 45k miles and 3 years:

    - Bluetooth module (early on)
    - crankcase breather hose (more recently)

both replaced and no problems since. Chipped w/ APR early in life. May be turning it in a couple of months from now when the lease ends. Who knows, maybe I'll buy her out and throw more mods on her.

A6 I bought 2 yrs ago, put 20k miles on her and no problems other than she burns almost a quart every 3k miles. 1 more year left on CPO too!

I've got an '08 with 25k miles and the only thing I've had go wrong so far was the PCV that caused oil leaks at the oil fill cap and valve cover at about 23k miles. Fixed under warranty and no issues since.

Ive got 34K on my January 08 delivery car. Do about 17K a year. I change the oil when the car tells me. Synthetic oil doesnt require 5K changes so I dont worry about it. I was changing the oil every 15K in my M3 and never had a SINGLE problem over 62K miles in 2.5 years. So far the audi is going strong....

Fully synthetic oil can be changed every 15000 miles, even can call your dealer and ask

There are multiple oil analysis reports from different members on here that report that the Castrol OE oil used by dealerships experiences a significant reduction of it's flashpoint at just 3000 miles, meaning it will start burning easier. I don't trust any oil for that length of time, and the reason the dealerships suggest that length is because the EPA is riding the auto industry hard to reduce the output of hazardous waste.

Use mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and you wont have any problems. Changing oil every 3000 miles is an old myth. In Europe they stopped doing that in 1980's. Just do a research online or watch myth busters :)

    Re: 32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

    things wrong with my car:

    2006 A4 QTM6 33k miles
-front left window regulator replaced, front left window switches replaced b.c they wouldnt light up
    -fuel pressure sensor replaced
    -intake flap motor replaced
-both left and right xenon bulbs and ballasts replaced due to flickering problems and headlight switch replaced b.c the 'AUTO' led light wouldn't light up
-starter replaced (was stranded in a parking lot and had audi roadside tow the car to the dealer)
-drivers seat upper leather cover replaced b.c of cracks in the leather

now it seems that my glove box will only close after 2-3 tries and my trunk shocks aren't really holding the trunk up anymore.

    STILL LOVE THE CAR THO

    Re: 32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

Audi says you don't have to change it that frequently, therefore I don't. If a problem arises due to infrequent oil changes, that is their problem, not mine. Who actually plans on keeping these cars past the point that a problem would result due to that anyways?

Oh, and my PCV and valve cover gasket blew out on the way home from a long road trip this weekend. I pulled over to get gas and check under the hood in Pennsylvania and saw oil all around my cap, coils, firewall, and leaking from under the valve cover. I got so pissed I just said F it and drove the thing all the way back to Atlanta, stopping to check my oil level every so often. I made it back fine, brought it to the dealer Saturday, and everything was replaced under warranty.

    Re: 32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

We're on variable servicing in the UK and can go theoretically up to 20k between services, my personal car tells me it wants servicing just about every 10k (which is the same as the UK fixed intervals)

When I used to have a company car, that went up to 18k between oil changes

    Re: 32,000 miles, nothing wrong!

2006 A4 2.0T... 97,000 km right now, but what was done under warranty:

    2 x intake manifold controller
    1 x right ballast
1 x left headlight unit, controller was okay but no fault code could be generated or detected which was strange
2 x driver seat bottom (in less than two years, fake leather keeps on cracking)
1 x right rear passenger seat locking mechanism (rattles like a SOB in winter, left side is now rattling)
1 x clutch switch (faulty switch preventing the cruise control from working)
1 x glove compartment hinge/brake (it's acting up again, will probably just take that out and grease it or just get rid of it entirely)
coil packs replaced under voluntary recall recently

    Off warranty

    1 x DV @ 90,000km
    1 x cam follower @ ~92,000km (preventative maintenance)
    1 x PCV @ ~92,000km (preventative maintenance)
    1 x front pads/rotors @ ~94,000 km
    1 x clutch @ 97,000km

    To be addressed...

1 x passenger side mirror motor
1 x coolant sensor (on it's last leg as it's fluctuating)

Still considering the cost in the repairs after warranty, I'm still ahead in terms of what's in my pocket compared to what I was paying a month in terms of leasing.

Comparing this to my old 2001 A4, while I did return it at the end of the lease (70,000 km), it had fewer problems (stereo headunit replaced as it had a mind of it's own, front brakes replaced) though the belt tensioner I think was on it's way out as it started to make some funny noises.
