    Brake dust - annoyance

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
anyone else finding their brakes spew out too much brake dust? just washed my car and drove it about 10 miles.. came back and there was some brake dust over some spokes.. not a whole lot, but enough to notice.

anyone have some advice--would upgrading the brakes alleviate? if so, any recos?

    Re: Brake dust - annoyance

I've had 5 different brands on my B5 and never got any real relief from the dust. Just odd. New car already is suffering. I really want gun metal colour wheels. You can try and wax your wheels. I've never done it but I heard some people saying it makes it easier to clean them and the dust doesn't stick as much.

You could try covers http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...e+Dust+Shields If you can find a set that fits.

When I had endless brakes on my old car, I never had brake dust. Or visable brake dust. It was kinda clear.

I have used wheel wax on my wheels and I have to say it makes them much easier to clean. I will take the wheels off every 6 months and clean them then wax them.

SO much dust! I have the sport package 18s and they are reallllll fun to clean with the spokes how they are

That thread posted above me is scary, seeing his wheel stained. Ive just been using a shitty 'wheel cleaner' spray and my hand, followed by carwash soap/sponge and its been alright so far. Been able to get em clean. I plan on revamping my entire car-wash supply stock though since this car deserves nicer products

    Re: Brake dust - annoyance

This is just the life of a German car. Have had 2 Mercedes, 2 VW's and and a BMW in the family recently and brake dust is just a fact of life.

The dust is coming from the pads obviously, so this is the only component which should be swapped out. Cermanic brake pads usually have better results with reducing brake dust, but I do not believe any have come to market yet for the B8 A4.

As soon as they do, they should sell like hotcakes!

Yeah, my matte black v710's always look more like bronze black due to the brake dust. :\

    Re: Brake dust - annoyance

It's the price to pay for good braking. The composite is really soft. I think I prefer seeing brake dust than those covers. Ugly as hell IMO

Brake dust is not a fact of life, and it's not the price to pay for good braking.

Eventually there will be ceramic pads available, from Akebono and EBC. They give better braking and have no dust.

yea...just wait for ceramic pads, once they're out, go to the track, finish up your brakes and install new ones. =D

    Re: Brake dust - annoyance

Have you noticed a lot less brake dust in the winter months? Something about the cold is making it less sticky. Also, the regular rain constantly washes my wheels. Good trade-off for the salt.
