    Removing B7 headlight

Any tips for getting the 3rd T-25 that is 6" down a skinny little hole? I went and got a long extension with a small enough bit holder to fit down the hole but I can't get it to line up. You can't see what your doing, your can't get a finger in anywhere to guide it in..

Can somebody confirm its a T-25 for sure? Any tips at all?

I'm pretty sure its a T25 if it's not then it's a T30 I can't remember which one I used. Also be very patient it took me a really long time to get it lined up. Also you don't have to remove the screw just loosen it. If you have really skinny arms and hve the bumper off you might be able to reach up from underneath and guide it. Watch out though my friend got cut up a bunch trying to do it. I would just try your best to have the extension go straight down, and you can feel when it is on top of the screw or not. Be patient you'll get it eventually

It wont ever come loose using a t25... Try using a t30 because thats what size it is. I just took mine out the other day and shipped them to our pal that made the DIY for the leds.

Baa.. I'm quiting for today and going to drink beer and watch hockey. I was hoping to get it done in two days but unless tomorrow's battle goes better I'll be at it for 3. Got the bumper off, Airbox out, Maf removed, Coils removed, Intake Manifold unhooked and unbolted but left in place so no dust can get into the heads overnight. If I could get the headlights out and slide the rad forward I would be in ok shape.

what are you trying to do?

if you can't get that bolt, take one of the bolts you've removed to the store, find a long ass flathead that fits and use that

    I'm in the process of:
    -Headlight mods (LEDs and resistors)
    -Intake spacers
    -LW Crank Pully
    -Snub Mount
    -Valve cover gaskets

I have given up on my current tools and will be buying a long ass flathead in the morning.

In order to do the clear corner mod, is it really necessary to remove the bumper? I mean is just the three torx bolts and then the harness holding in the light housing right?

Removing the bumper really isn't as big of deal as you'd expect. It comes off no problem. Took longer to get the car on jack stands and the wheels off.

I love AZ. Thanks guys! Got a long flathead this morning. Took the grinder too it so it fit in a T-25 perfectly. (yes, they were T-25s on my car not T-30s) and bang, done is 30 seconds.

    Headlights are out!

Necro bumping this thread to say thanks for the tip on the long, skinny flat head - after 1.5 hours of dicking around with taped together socket extensions and wobbles and whatnot, I went to Sears and grabbed the longest, thinnest screwdriver they had for like $4 - worked on the first try, I didn't even have to grind down the screwdriver head, and had both headlights off in <2 min. That third bolt is such a PITA, but actually very easy with the right tool!

I did the same thing one afternoon, and ended up losing a bit in the recesses within that hole. My blue tape job failed me .

I ended buying the following on ebay for $17 that evening several months ago, to get the job done:

SK tools T-30 X 5.92" Suregrip Torx Screwdriver

$17 is a lot for a single driver, but hey its SK! Needless to say, if I knew I could grab a $4 skinny long flathead from Sears that very evening though, I would have happily gone that route...

^^^ Yup, was just going to post something like that. I got this years ago when I had my B6 S4 - http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-p...p-00947214000P

It's the perfect length for that last headlight clamp screw, and I use it a lot. And yes they're all T30's.

Ohh, that is baller being T30. Mine was just the Craftsman Cabinet Tip Screwdriver 3/16 x 8-IN - only like $4 and they had it in stock at the Sears by me, worked like a charm, but might pick that bad boy up just to round out the collection of insane parts only Audi would require to do simple maintenance like accessing the headlight bulbs :P

Ditto! That, and a 16" extension to a wobble joint to a 10mm deep socket, for taking the bumper off, lol.

Can someone clarify for me if I need to remove the front bumper just to swap out the drivers side headlight unit for mt B7 RS4? My current unit is fogging up with water vapor so I assume I need to replace the entire headlight unit. Two of the torx screws are easy but that third one down the skinny shaft is near impossible to get to. Is bumper removal necessary to continue?

Grab yourself either a long 3/16 screwdriver or a long T30 screwdriver and loosen the bolt that way. You will need to move the bumper forward at least a little bit in order to get out the headlight so you might as well remove the bumper all the way. It only takes a few minutes once you figure out what bolts are supposed to be taking out.
There are two or three that hold the bumper to the fender and you need to get them though the fender liner. A couple T30 bolts up top and the bumper comes off.

Front only needs to be lifted if you have bolts on the under side holding it up. Like a skid plate. I do it myself without help. It's nice to have help tho. 2nd set of hands are always good.
