I'm still trying to get a hang of tire sizes so please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong. I would do 255/35/19 on the front and back, but why wouldn't you want to go as wide as possible all around? *insert Blake copyright here*

Definitely would not work lowered. 255/35/19 on a 8.5" has a limit of ET38 on the front. With ET35 you should drop down to 245s. I'm not sure about ET31...

Turco, did you already buy the wheels? I'd go 19x10" all around instead of staggering widths. It makes no sense on these cars, IMO.

Because depending on the wheel's width and offset having a wide tire ca/will cause rubbing, which is what most people do not want, hence people use different size (smaller in width in some cases) to gain a bit more clearance when running an aggressive wheel setup.

Blake, actually i got this set up from a friend that he has no use for it,
it was from a 2004 SLK, I did a search, they will fit, they are HRE, that's why I'd like to give a try.
    im currently running 19x8.5 -43 with 255's.
the tires on the HRE are 235 35 front, 265 30 rear,
im thinking to keep 235 front and 245 rear if that works, since the rear with 255 may rub :(

I'm not doing anything at the moment, was just giving him one of the reason's why people run different tire sizes. And why people dont go as wide as they possible can on a rim.

Sooo quick question.. I got a set of Rotiforms that I need to get tires for.. They will just be ran in the summer.. The fronts are 19x8.5 and the rear is 19x10.. I was going to go 255's in the rear and either 245 or 235 up front.. Which would be the better option for me? I am running just H&R sport springs.. Also I do have quattro... ET is 35 for both front and rear

they are these beautys from JOS4AUDI

The rest of the pics you'll have to wait until VMR posts them, as mine turned out crappy. Hopefully you can see the change of color in the different lights: almost gold in sunlight, dark bronze-gold in dim light, and black in low light.
And yes, I know, more low. Working on a bag system atm.

You lowered Ryan? If so, did you remove the front fender liner clip? I was rubbing on that with my stock S Line wheels (19x8.5" ET43 255/35/19) immediately after lowering.

Also running 19 x 8.5 ET35 with 255's in the front with no issues.

Not as low as some of you youngsters though.

However, If I could do it again I would have gone with 245's for less sidewall.

Why would you stagger a FWD or AWD car? staggered wheels are for RWD so the wheels receiving power have more tire on the ground for traction during throttle on. AWD requires the same size wheel in all 4 corners for the proper throttle output to each corner in instances of low traction, staggering them will mess that geometry up. FWD cars have no purpose or need for wider in the rear, it's only going to slow you down.

Why not just go 255/35/19 all around on 19x9.5?

Hell no, 19x10 ET 35 will poke for sure...If you are lowered, it will rub for sure too !

19x10 ET40 should be fine on OEM sports suspension.

My current setup is 19x9.5 ET 40F/35R. I have almost no poke and absolutely no rub on OEM sports suspension.

I agree with DA, staggered on AWD is not my thing and I'd rather not comment further because the sizes will be wrong regardless.

I just picked up a set of winter tires for cheap, but they are 225/45/17 instead of the 225/50/17. i did the diameter calculator and it says difference is 3.4%, is that too much? Or is it no big deal and it will just throw my speedometer off a couple mph?

General rule of thumb is to stay within 3%, so I'd say it's too much. It will throw both your speedometer and odometer off.

i am in the market for wheels and i see a lot of people running different specs in this thread. will these specs rub in the front or rear? i don't want to do any fender work and i will on occasion have people in the back seat. will i have to worry about the spare tire and new tire size being off if i had a flat with awd? not sure what's an allowable different before affecting the drive train.

    Tires: 255/35 (Falken or Hankook)

    Suspension:
ST Coils (to be installed) lowered about 1.4"-1.5"

    Like Blake said - 9.5!

If you do 9.5, use 255s.
If you do 8.5, use 245s. (considering you will be lowered)

As for the spare - have you looked at that thing? It is much thinner than the stock wheels. All B8s have the same size spare. S-Line and S4s have 255 tires with the same size spare you have. Older models had a full size spare, but we got the donut...

Go for Hankook tires for sure - I love mine
