    2.8 Spark Plugs....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys

I have had my car for over a year now, and havent even looked at the plugs. They are still in fine shape and I have no idle/misfire issues, but I just feel like I should replace them anyways.

I have no knowledge in 2.8 spark plug replacement, so I am just wondering what other 2.8'ers use for plugs.

After you guys reply with a specific plug, let me know what you set the gap too and what you torque them down to.

    TIA

    Re: 2.8 Spark Plugs....

How many miles/kms? The stock platinum plugs in the v6 engines were designed to go for quite a while. You'll see that a lot of 1.8T guys go with NGK coppers, especially if they are chipped or modded. 2.8 owners don't need to bother, and in my opinion you won't see any benefit unless you have forced induction.

When it came time to do mine, gap of .032 on NGK iridium ix. They were cheaper than buying the stock ngk platiums from the dealer and technically it's an "upgrade". So far I like it.

According to the Bentley, torque spec is 22ft-lbs

    Re: 2.8 Spark Plugs....

I've used both of the plugs we carry and I feel the NGK's have a bit longer life and I noticed a fuel economy gain. The fuel economy is likely because I was replacing old plugs, but either way it was noticed.

Torque is 22 ftlbs and they are "pre-gapped" because they have the triple firing heads.

I also use the NGK Iridiums when I replaced mine about a year ago.

When I was researching this those were the ones I found recommended the most often

Do not get Bosch Platinum 4's spark plugs. I had mine for a year and I ran about 13,000miles and they are misfiring now. They misfire on and off.

My buddy has a Toyota XRunner and we changed them at the same time to the Bosch Platinum 4s and they also misfired in his truck. We run about the same miles but him a little more.

I'm gonna try the NGK's and hope this will stop my misfires.

My best luck has been with Denso platinums. Had them in over 20k now with no problems.

I was sure that the recommended replacement was like 20k miles.

I have NGK 3 point tip ones in mine. Had them since I got the car. They were new then but I know I need to replace them. No running issues though.

I went from very worn Copper junk to Iridium and noticed a huge difference and it was much more smoother. Platinum is just as good.

FNK that chart isnt accurate for a 2.8. Turbo cars and non turbo cars need different plug designs. Too hot a plug on a turbo car and you get early detonation. Also the fact its on an SRT4 engine lol.

Of course the heat will have an impact, but supposing you have the right heat, then this chart is somewhat valid as a comparison.

Anyhow, the idea behind that chart is to prove that a finer tip will spark more easily, thus requiring less power to be drawn by the engine to fire the air-fuel mixture. The result, and increase in HP/Mileage over stock copper plug.

Curious, I looked up on Autozone where the NGK ix Iridium 3764 called for a gap of 0.44. Which NGK Iridium are you using... Is it the same part? Thanks for posting, cheers.
