    Tel button: Telephone not installed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have my iPhone paired to my car's bluetooth and it works perfectly. Except for the Tel button on my RNS-E head unit. It always says "Telephone not installed" when I push it. I've asked my dealer twice now if that was normal when I dropped it off for service and, since I pick the car up after hours, I'm unable to get an explanation from them other then what it says on the invoice which is "unable to reproduce problem" both times.

Is this normal operation? Am I doing something wrong? Is it my phone? The steering wheel controls and voice operation works normally.

Re: Tel button: Telephone not installed

Sounds like a software issue. That's odd. Unless it hasn't paired up yet when you push it. It does take a few seconds sometimes for phones to pair up once you get in and start the car. Do you get the bluetooth icon and signal bars at the very bottom of the screen on your RSNE?

You have to use the cradle to access those phone features. Open up your center console and you'll see a connection for your phone. Purchase the cradle that corresponds with your iphone (no idea where you could get this), and you'll be able to use all of those phone features.

I've found that the bluetooth connection is more than enough with my blackberry. I can set voice dialing, but I usually just scroll through my contacts on the info screen via the steering wheel controls.

With my iphone, the telephone functions still work even though i am connected through bluetooth. I find it useless though, as it only allows you to store names for voice dialing.

Whoa what?! A bluetooth icon and signal bars?

I do not get anything like that. So this is what happens: I get in and start car, a few seconds later I hear the bluetooth chime telling me it connected. When that happens the mute indicator shows up next to the clock on the RNS-E and then turns off after the chime. At this point I can use steering wheel controls and see names on dash and the voice controls all normally. If I recieve or place a call the radio mutes. The Tel button says I have no phone though and I definitely never seen the icon and bars.

Does anyone have a picture of the icon and bars? Maybe if I show my dealer they can figure it out...

    Thanks guys

BTW, this nav unit was a factory installed option. Not a retro-fit after the fact if that matters.

You can see it next to the time. Bars then the bluetooth icon. Sounds like you have a software issue.

Spot on! Thanks for the assist! I don't do pic posting. So thanks for knowing what I was talking about. Like we both said, sounds like a software issue, failing that a hardware issue between the module and the RSN-E.

If you have Nav is bluetooth built in? My car says telephone not installed either...but how can I be sure of that? I do have xenons, so isnt the phone part of the tech package?

Re: Tel button: Telephone not installed

I think the Bluetooth option is seperate from other packages. For example the print out from Audi describing the build for my car has Bluetooth listed seperately from the S Line Package, convenience package, etc... I don't think it was included in any packages but rather ordered seperately.

I don't have Nav though so I dunno if it is included with the nav system.

I never got this fixed. I did, however, finally get a vag-com cable. See my address 77 screen shot. I think it's correct (see image)? I didn't make any changes, this is how it came from the factory. Anywhere else to check?

Lightbulb Telephone Not Installed (Audi A4 Convertible 1.8T 2005)

    Guys,

I have the same problem and I need help in getting this resolved, I had a 8P0 862 335 C fitted in my car, I can only pair one phone with it which is my Blackberry 9800 Touch, which seems to work fine but when I press the Tel button I get the message "Telephone Not Installed"
    My system is the RNSE
I have read about Vag Com but I don't have a clue what that does.
I know you guys have visited this issue and rectified it before but I have no clue how to get this fixed and the installer that installed it don't know either....HELPPPPPP please!

The pictures doesn't seem to display on here, I have managed to upload 2 pictures on my photo gallery, one of the Purple 16 pin Vag Com port which is located under the drivers foot well and the screen I get when I press the telephone button, the mute works fine when I make calls but I cannot adjust the volume, I can only control this on my phone but I will love to get some feedback on the resolution to Activate my Tel button. Audi A4 Convertible 2005 (Registered June 2005)
When my phone connects it seems to mute the radio or music and also it mutes when the phone rings, I have manage to connect Blackberry, HTC, Nokia and Iphone to the bluetooth Audi UHV 5765, only one phone connects at a time, they all work fine but i cannot turn down the volume or control it from the RNSE.
    I don't have a multifunction steering wheel, I hope doesn't really matter?
I need help desperately folks.....thanks in advance.....

    My .02 cents.

If your phone is connecting to the car and working, but only through the steering wheel and you get "phone not connected" when hitting the TEL button on the NAV, update your firmware.

My NAV firmware was very old, once updated it works great and I see the little bluetooth icon at the bottom center screen when connected.

Current version is 0260 in America. You can check yours in the settings.

edit: I believe Europe is 0650 right now

    Thanks for replying Tecnica
I don't have a multifunction steering wheel, the installer that installed it gave me the pairing pin as 1234 which I believe is the default pin, so I am able to pair ir using that....This Bluetooth is a retrofit.
My firmware is 650 which I believe is the upto date one.
I read somewhere to try and downgrade the firmware which I am unable to do without changing settings on vagcom settings, I have nav map dvd 2007 & 2008 which I believe the 2008 updated the firmware so now when I put the 2007 dvd it says unreadable.
    Do you know about vagcom?

Can someone also explain what CANBUS is? is Audi A4 convertible June 2005 CANBUS enabled?

I've been having the same problem. Mine worked perfectly one day, not the next. My phone pairs with the system but the NAV says no phone available so when it rings the radio does not turn down the volume and what not and I cannot make any calls from the NAV unit.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Fr4nugen,

Do you have the same Nav unit (RNSE) as the one in the picture displayed by Homer above? Have you got the latest firmware for the USA which I believe is 0260 as mentioned by Tecnica above?

Mine mutes the radio, cd, Nav (I can set it in the Nav option to allow voice guidiance) and I can heat through the speakers clearly but very loud so I turn the volume on my phone to the lowest to stop the caller from hearing themselves.

The only problem I have is that I can not see my phone when I press the Tel button, as seen on the screen shot above it shows my radio in mute as I was using the phone.

Presss the car button, it will display version, then press the big navigation button...See screen shot below.

To update your firmware you will need a up to date Nav dvd or you should be able to download and burn it on to a disc.

The guys at Audiforum.us resolved this exact issue for me. I needed to Vagcom my car with the appropriate codes. Here is the forum thread that they fixed me in: http://audiforum.us/threads/rns-e-ph...50/#post-77789

You would need to use the appropriate codes for your region and options.

ITEM REQUIRED - LAPTOP (I used Windows XP, I am sure it will work with Windows 7 32 or 64 bit as well, I am not a fan of Vista), VAG COM USB DIAGNOSTIC CABLE 409.1 OBD2 II LEAD VAG-COM (VCDS-Lite works with XP, Vista, Windows 7 32/64 bit UK) I bought this cable from eBay UK for £7.98 and it comes with the VCDS Lite see link to eBay item i bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330399696070.

When I spoke to Audi they told me I cannot get this cable...hahaha!

    PROCEDURE BELOW
    ************************-
NOTE - Your RNSE will be locked while in the option No-37 Nav or No-56 Radio

I got the code 7 in step 5 from this forum see link http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/new-a3-...ing-rns-e.html

    1. Install cable driver 1st on the laptop.

    2. Then install VCDS Lite software, it can be downloaded at this link http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/index.html and install it as well

    3. Open VCDS Lite software you will be greeted with the main screen, click on the icon that says Select (Select Control Module)

    4. You will get the 2nd screen with several tabs, the Common tab should be selected if it is not the default, select 37-Navigation or 56-Radio.

    5. On the next screen 3 select the Recode-07 (My code was 0413111) (I changed it to 0413711 and click Do It) see the rest of the screen below.

    6. Come out and you will see the bluetooth on the RNSE.

VagCom Cable I used is NOT Hex+k+Can, I believe there is some cars out there that might require a CANBUS enabled Cable

I did not code my bluetooth in the Vagcom, I bought a OEM Audi bluetooth model 8P0 862 335 C MY 2006 A4 8E-6-000 001/8E-6-800 001>> for my car, It worked straight after installation but it did not work on the RNSE Display.
Which display are you talking about?
Not that the coding depends on the car you have, can you send some screen dump of the code you have in your VagCom? that will be the starting point before you can re-code or get the right code for what you want.

Mine was retrofitted as well and I pressed Recode-07 and changed the 0413111 to 0413711, if I am correct I think US should be 6 instead of 7, I have highlighted the number I changed, replaced the last 1of the last 3 numbers 111 to 711, hope this helps.

I had a look at p40-41 of the link you sent and I will suggest you read from page 37-41 there are important info there.

    Hi Fr4nugen,

Do you have the same Nav unit (RNSE) as the one in the picture displayed by Homer above? Have you got the latest firmware for the USA which I believe is 0260 as mentioned by Tecnica above?
I have the same unit pictured above. I also have the update 0260 as mentioned above. I have realized that I have the OEM NAV but an aftermarket bluetooth system attached to it. It is a KUFATEC FISCON system that seems to rate really well. It basically worked perfectly one day and not the next.

The bluetooth part is working because my phone connects to KUFATEC system and syncs with it. If I make a call from my phone through the system people can hear me perfectly, but the sound only comes through the car on the right rear speaker so it is very hard to hear who I am talking too. Very strange. The NAV also shows no phone and does not mute the radio or anything as it did previously.

    Any suggestions? VAG?

Have you checked your coding on VagCom? You will need to get the right codes for your Kufatec system, check out the link for guidance, it might not necesarily be your codes but it might help https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...WJlN2U2MjgwMGM

Also look at this forum... Audi OEM Bluetooth is recommended http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a4-a4-c...-question.html

So do I need the vag cam to get my phone to work? I have a 2009 s5 and there isn't a setting to turn on Bluetooth. I turned my phone for search and that's all the farther I can get. My mmi screen says what many others have showed.. your telephone might not be connected or inserted properly.

You may not have BT. If you turn on the car and search for BT on your phone, you should see Audi UHV as a possible pairing.
