I have had this on my car for a long ass time, I am sure my TC needs replacing but that's like the least of my LONG list of overdue maintenance.

Working in a dealership and seeing this on a constant basis with S4's and Allroads, it looks like you need a new torque converter.

whats a rough estimate of the cost of repairs? and how big of an issue is this (ie-will my car stop running in a few months?)?

I have no idea the TC by itsself for a better one is like 950 I believe, if you call Audi your looking at like 3 or 4 grand if I remember correctly.

I have had this issue for a couple years if I recall and its been ok so far (knock on wood) I dont want to jinx myself ugh.

I've been out of the business for a couple of years now, but IIRC the labor time is about 13-15 hours, and the parts were around $6-700 at that time.

It can eventually completely fail and you'll get no acceleration. That's extreme, but the normal occurrence is slipping.

did you search man... there are HUGE threads about this ... the latest being roughly 3 wks ago

and yes.. you need a new TC 99% of the time... 1% of the time it's a solenoid...

a new TC (upgraded) from 517 will run you about $500-600

labor will be at least a grand ...
