hi guys im arif and im 20 years old. im in the market for a new car.
im looking at a 2000 a8. it has 137k tan interior and it is a very clean car.
i have owned a 94 c4 s4 in the past and i own a 97 vr6 jett and a passat wagon.

i need some thing bigger and awd.

my question is how problematic are the a8s? ive heard that the automatic tranny is something to be worried about? and the timming chians too??

any and all help is very greatly appreciated....

update the title of the thread to be a bit more descriptive, more people will read and respond that way.

I cannot answer as to the tranny issues, but the timing belts fail anywhere from 60k-120k. Check the service records, find out if/when the TB was replaced. If it was 10k ago, then don't worry about it, if it was never replaced, or only done at 70 or 80, then count that into the cost of buying the car, probably $1,200-1500 or more for the timing belt including labor.
