Any way to aim headlights higher?

Hey guys, I noticed that my headlights could probably use some re-aiming a bit higher for better night visibility. I realize it's probably because my car is so low, but I know on past cars I was able to turn a knob on the headlight assembly to aim them higher. Anybody tried yet?

I dont see any on the B8. My B6 had it though. What I have noticed is when I turn the car on, the lights adjust themselves upwards and then back down. So maybe its VAGcom controlled now a days?
I could also imagine this is true as the US and EU lighting standards are different, so having it controlled by electronically would make it easier to change for other markets.

Blake, there is a white hex screw on the top of the headlight housing that will adjust the up and down. I did mine about a month ago and the auto-leveling still works great.

Thanks so much! Do you happen to remember which way to turn for UP or how many revolutions you made, by chance?

Re: Any way to aim headlights higher?

I made three revolutions for each light and that got me from my current height, to roughly a stock level. The beam terminates about 200ft in front of my car (rough estimate) after adjusting the lights. Unfortunately I cannot remember which way I turned the screw (IE clockwise or counter-clockwise) but if you line the car up against a garage roughly 30ft away, you should clearly observe whether the light is going up or down based on which way you turn the screw.

Thanks Jacon. My headlight beam pattern is alittle high. The audi tech told me to just bring it in for service and their computer would fix it. I will try to adjust my lights your way first.

Did you turn the screw clock wise or counter clockwise? Thanks again

Good looking out, as i noticed mine are a lower height as well, which direction to turn would be helpful!

Just lower your car and that should take care of the problem!

Hm, interesting. I wonder if I'll need to raise mine too after I lower my car. Too bad the system doesn't auto level to horizon....or does it? Considering it self-tests up-and-down as well as side-to-side on boot-up.

Re: Any way to aim headlights higher?

*UPDATE* - It will be a white 6mm hex screw on top of the ballast. Clockwise will raise the beam and counter-clockwise will lower the beam

The system will auto level to horizon but only so far from what I can gather. You'll need to have the car on level ground when you adjust the beam. Once the 'control' beam is set, the auto-leveling will handle any future cases in which the car's height might change. I should also note that you should adjust these beams with around 1/2 tank of gas and no extra weight in the trunk.

Re: Any way to aim headlights higher?

I came across a "range" setting in Vag-Com when poking around -- didn't try to adjust it however -- wonder if that would do the same thing without having to twist screws...

The mechanical method would be easier, just wondering if it's do-able electronically as well...

I did two awhile back, and i think one more full turn would of done the job best. So three turns is pretty spot on

I'm afraid 3 rotations were too much. I was lighting up signs on freeway overpasses! Good news is that nobody high-beamed me. I'm going to dial them back 1 full rotation and see if that's better.

Ive noticed my driver headlight is a tad lower than the passanger one, even though i did two full even turns. Is this normal or should i nudge it up a bit more? My guess is its like that because its a left hand driver vehicle?

yes...dont touch them. Generally the driver's side is lower to keep the beam away from on-coming traffic. Your eyes are not deceiving you....they are set like that from the factory.

Damn, I got hi-beamed twice last night so maybe they're still aimed a little too high. I might try lowering them a half turn to see how much difference it makes. If visibility is reduced, they're going back up!

Would someone mind taking a picture of this hex screw? As many of you may know, I swapped my halogens for xenons a couple weeks ago and my lights need some adjusting...
I remember seeing two white hex screws on the top of each housing. I can't check again now because I am out of town for a week.

I made sure to mark my headlight levels on my garage before I changed my lights. The new drivers side light lined up PERFECTLY with the old halogen, but the passenger side is a bit low...

Yep but.. You've got 2? Hmm must be because I have adaptive. The one we share is the one on the right. Guessing it's the height adjustment since we both have it.
