    Unplugged Battery > Lost Functions

Hey, trying to figure out what I'll need to do to correct this issue, and how to start trouble shooting.

    Short story:
I unplugged my battery and 10 minutes later plugged it back in to find that I lost my window auto up/down as well as my keyless entry.

Long story (hopefully you might find what went wrong by walking through what i did):
I was removing my boost gauge and so first I removed kick panel under steering column. I pull headlight wiring harness out from behind headlight switch. Because of the possibility of running into live or exposed wires, I remove one plug of my battery. I pull the internal light for the boost gauge, which was hardwired to my autodimming headlight switch, and also remove the ground wire. No other wires were cut. I pack everything back in and bolt up the kick panel. I made sure not to touch/pull/jar the fuses, which wasn't too difficult as the kick panel is relatively easy to work with. Lastly I fasten the plug back onto my battery. Start car and everything is fine, except no auto windows up or down while car is on and engine running (i know it does not work with engine off and key turned 1 notch). Decide it's not a big deal and to deal with tomorrow morning, but as I am walking away from my car, my key remote does not lock, unlock or open trunk anymore.

Any ideas? I'm a newb to DIY. I can generally get through most anything with reasonable instructions, but without all the experience, I have no idea why I lost these functions.

My first inclination, when I encountered my auto windows up and down not working, was to grab my $20 vag-com cable and change any necessary settings. Now seeing my keyless not work, I feel it's something else. I'm flashed with APR, wondering if I could've lost my programming as well in the process? I'll check tomorrow to see if my stalk responds to my inputs for APR, but hoping to get some feedback from others.

Wait did you lose your auto up in vehicle or through the remote? If its just in vehicle...that's called the "detailers lock" or something along those lines. My Audi dealership did that once to me as a prank...if I remember correctly you hold up(maybe its down) on EACH switch for 10 seconds then release.

Sorry if that's a bit jumbled up....hope this helps!

I lost my auto up and down in vehicle, with key in the On position and engine running. Hopefully I'll get my remote window up/down function back once the two individual issues are resolved. I am going back downstairs to try the press and hold method. What other instructions do you have? Does the car need to be on, or off? Do I press all the windows switches at the same time, or 1 at a time?

The remote is absolutely useless as it does nothing at the moment. I will continue trying to sync the key. I've already started my car 3 times since i lost functionality. I will check the manual for a definite process.

    Sweet so all problems resolved.

Checked the manual and the proper re-sync process is:
    1) Press 'unlock' on remote.
    2) Insert key and turn 1 notch.
    3) Turn key back to off and remove.
    4) Press either 'lock' or 'unlock' to complete the process.
    5) Get back on with your life.

    Window auto up/down restore process:
    1) Close affected window all the way.
    2) Pres 'Up' for 1 more second.
    3) Test auto up down feature (will be restored).
    4) Repeat for all remaining affected windows.
    5) Rejoice.

I was just a little surprised because I unplugged the battery when I installed the boost gauge and did not run into these issues.

If anyone knows of any other known issues after disconnecting the battery, which I may not have encountered/realized yet, please let me know.

I've been dealing with battery issues too and since my battery has emptied twice now this has happened to me. it goes away after a while.(window) weird thing was that my passenger window did this once and it just went away.

Foy your keys tho, you just need to start the car a couple of times with it and it re-syncs.
