Hoping I didn't jump into this assuming the A4 & S4 keys are any different? I wouldn't think so.

I'm down to 1 key also, so adding 2 new B7 keys is exciting, and will save some cash.

    Good link Avantist! Repped!

And, I have no idea if the S4 is the same as the A4, but we could compare part numbers on the OEM keys and find out. Whats the part number on your S4 key?

Can someone post up the part number on a B6 A4 key? I don't have my B6 key handy or I would do it.

Prob not the same being EU.

But here is my B6 A4 for shits and giggles:

    8Z0 837 231 D

What about keys ending in K or Q. They have the same frequency but does anyone know do they or should they work?

So since I jumped the gun on this and didn't even think about A4 & S4 being different, all I looked at was "B6" in this thread, will I be needing to order a different IMMO chip?I imagine if I'm quick about this, I could change my order which was placed last night. ?

Sorry, I don't know about the S4. But I say give a shot, since the parts are so cheap and its so easy to do. See if it works, if so you can tell other S4 guys about it. If it doesn't work you could probably sell all the parts to a A4 guy and not lose any money. Hope it works for ya.

I don't have my stock key with me, but my B7 key is 315MHz, so I have to assume the stock key is too.

Re: How to get a B7 key to work with your B6

I have to say that I don't know about the S4, but it seems the key part #'s are the same except for the last letter, and it looks like the both operate @ 315MHz so the odds are that it will work. I think the deciding issue would be with the CCM module, similar to the issue with '02 A4's (it's a different CCM, but only for '02), but that may not be the case.

I think we are all interested to see if it works with the S4, so if you have the time and $$ let us know what happens.

Haha, well parts are all ordered. The only issue I'll run into is finding the VAG-Com device. Dealership is probably my only option here. The guys in the service department will probably look at me like I'm crazy trying this, and won't be to helpful. I'm sure they would rather me pay $300 a key.

I have a buddy who works at VW, and I asked him about the VAG-com device but he said they only have a specific model for VW's.

I'll follow these steps the the T, and let you know what comes of this. As I'm only into this $100+ so far, it's not a complete loss if it doesn't work. Worth a shot I guess.

IMMO chips came in the mail today, also both key fobs in hand. Waiting on the key blanks, vag-com (still trying to figure out where to get this done). Then onto the dealership with crossed fingers I guess.

So i have 1 key with a new IMMO chip ready for cutting/programming etc.

The other key has 2 stripped out T5 starbit heads so I can't get the damn case opened up. This was the key from midwestkeyless seller on ebay. Hopefully he will exchange the key, or I'm f'd and out $40.00

To get them cut, take them with the blank installed in the keyfob. It cost 25 a piece to have them cut at a locksmith. The Audi dealership charged me a flat rate of $75 to program my immo chips. I've heard some people say the VW dealership might do it for less.

I got 2 B7 keyfobs on Ebay for $25 shipped. Sure beats the $250 a piece they want at the stealership. I also have 2 extra immo chips if anyone in the Houston area needs some.

Yep, work like a charm. I feel like they work way better than my old B6 key. They seem to have a better distance for locking and unlocking, and I can roll the windows up/down from a much further distance. I had to be within about 5 ft of the car with the old one.

What year is your car? As far as I know, as long as you're not an '02 the 8E0837220R (or L) key should work.

I wish I knew more about what the key part # represents so I could answer that. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Charkey is correct - any CCM newer than '02 should work. Do you know what part # your CCM is?

There are still some gaps in part #'s we need to fill in I suppose.

charkey its an 05 so I don't have to worry about the CCM. I looked at my old fob and got that pn#. I quess it just has to be the 315 hz?? to be compatiable along w/ either R or L afterwards. May be someone else can look at their old fob for comparison?? My only problem is cutting keys at dealer. :(

They are the Immo chip required for use with a B6 car (regardless of key: B6 or B7). I ordered 4 but only needed 2 (just in case they broke in shipping or something unforeseeable)

Oh, ok. Mine's an '05, you should be fine. It has to be the 315Mhz. I believe it was Mike that said R and L both work (part number starting 4D0 does not work, so I've read). I had mine cut at a local locksmith for 25 a pop, I never even checked with the dealership though.

I can check my old key fob sometime, but it's at my parent's house so it may not be very soon. Anyone else care to check theirs and chime in?

Re: How to get a B7 key to work with your B6

I get these CRAZY quotes(150-180) to cut a key and then they tell me they can't? WTF I can't find any locksmith that has machine other than dealer 45 mins away..

No worries about the pn#on B6 fob whenever. Naudi's S4 has same pn as my current B6fob..

Are you certain the immob chip you got from mike's parts list applies to both B6 and 7?? I thought specfic immob chip he listed was for the B6. I have someone that's interested in one of my fobs but he has a B7 and I don't want to lie to him about chip??

    thanks

Re: How to get a B7 key to work with your B6

Dunno about the B6 vs. B7 immo chips, but when I compared the two side by side, they looked different. They may program the same...? Does the B7 have the same Gen. immobilizer? That may help to know.

Either way if your buyer wants to have a "new" key for his B7, the immo would need to be a virgin B7 immo chip to be programmed to his B7.

$25 (each) to cut a key here...you may call around and ask if the locksmith can cut a "sidewinder" key. They may be confused with the terminology.

About the key cutting...I'll put it in perspective - you live in/near Miami right? Well, I live in Montana, and our city maybe has 130K population and I had three locksmiths in the city that could cut my key. I would think someone could cut your keys for $25 or less!

yeah, what I was saying is that the immo chip from keymam will work for a B6 car in either remote, but possibly not work for a B7 car. But I've never tried it before. The immo chips that came out of my B7 keys when I replaced them looked the same to me as the new chips I put in them.

IIRC I got the immo type (Magmos 48) from another key thread made by derleicaman. Great info there, and it gave me the inspration to "make" a key by buying each part separately.

It may be possible to get a B7 key expert to confirm the B7 uses the Magmos 48 as well. I think it may be opening Pandora's box there...

    No pissing contest
It would be up to buyer to confirm Immob pn. May be someone who's gotten the B7 w/uncut and new immob could confirm pn after switching out to B6 immob chip
I'm anxious to get blanks and fob so I can take it to the VW dealer to cut in the event I can't find locksmith w/machine in SFL and one who doesn't charge like the dealer .
Once done program remote to open/close doors via pressing lock and unlock method w/original in ignition in the on position.
Could I tape immbo chip of spare to steering column in the meantime while new immob chip arrives form Keyman??
I was told to try Home Depot or Lowes to cut key??

Idk about the programing using the "lock and unlock method w/original in ignition in the on position". I used Vagcom.

yes you should be able to just tape the immo chip near the ignition.

Look at peoples sig for someone in Canada who could help.
Did your new B7 fob come w/virgin B7 immob chip and you bought the B6 chip from Keyman? If yes, can you see a pn on the B7 immob chip? What are you going to do w/them if they are virgin?
You have to call around and find locksmith that cuts a sidwinder key.. They may have no idea what your saying but tell them it's a key for a Audi.

Re: How to get a B7 key to work with your B6

I'm sorry, I didn't see if anyone answered this but, can you just swap a B6 key blade in to B7 FOB housing and get a new chip for it? I have two B6 keys, one I use regualry and the second will not take any programing. Audi is charging 190 for a new key and 50 for the programming..

Should I just get a new B6 FOB and chip?
