Help, cut wires.

hey, 2006 A3, i had the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my car... it has buzzed since i bought the car.

pulled it last night... it was grounded to itself, the wiring was held together by electrical tape, and worst of all: the factory harness running into the din area was cut... all but the wires that would connect to the aftermarket harness were cut from the harness... even though they wouldnt hurt anything, the last owner cut them...

so, i regrounded it, redid the connections, everything... got it sounding PERFECT...

THEN THE SHIT DIES. fuses are fine, no sparks... nothing. it just turned off and didnt turn back on.

now im looking for another unit, preferably Double din since i have the fascia, but i am thinking I need a new factory harness...

so, where can i get one, and how much?

am i fucked? lol

Take your time and review the harness again...you probably just blew a fuse, but you can repair and get your harness back in shape... just do it 1 wire at a time.

well, what other fuses do you think I could have blown? ive checked the one behind the unit, and the ones under the dash... but it was dark out, so i MIGHT have missed one...


i still dont know how i could possibly repair my harness. its the OEM one that comes into the cabin. its all hacked up and mangled...

buy yourself a few feet of wire in different colors in the same guage or larger (preferably matching the factory colors), and just extend the harness a bit...you're essentially cutting out the bad wires and replacing them... That's what a shop would do.

yeah, i guess i could. I'll start doing that next week when im off of work for a few days. I could even pull the wires apart a bit at the ends, strip the rubber, and shove it back into the connector... how do u think i can get the fragments out of the harness?

btw, whats the P/N for the OEM adapter plate for the radio? the one u screw on to the radio's side. last guy hammered them flat... then filed them... and maybe filed the inside of the radio compartment...

lol, im wondering what all damage this guy has caused by not doing stuff right... i wouldnt even wish this kind of carnage on a riced out civic, let alone a pristine freaking Audi.
