Remote Key Not Working After Battery Change

I just had my battery changed at a non-Audi dealer. Neither of the key fobs are working anymore. Is this is a simple setting I can fix or will I have to take it to the dealer to get them reprogrammed or something? Thanks...and I did check both and they were working previously.

The keys need to be re-programmed. Here is how you do it...

You have to put the key in the ignition, turn the key to the "accessory position" , and hold the unlock button for at least 5 seconds. This should do the trick.

Thanks guys...that worked exactly. I did a search right after posting and found the solution. I should have searched before asking, but I was too impatient. Props to Audizine guys

When I bought my car CPO, they sent me a brand new key fob.

Before I tried the new fob, I had the VAG window option done and had a RNSE put in. When I tried the new fob, it doesn't work -- do I have to have my original radio in there first?

Interestingly, this worked on one of my two remotes but not the other. I checked the voltage on the one that didn't work, it was at 3.05 (it's a 3 volt battery) so I figured it was ok. But after an hour or so of trying any and all of the 'solutions' listed in this thread, with no luck, I put a new battery in the remote. Did the "put the key in the ignition, turn the key to the "accessory position" , and hold the unlock button for at least 5 seconds. " and it worked first try. So there might be some truth to the remote needing a good strong battery in order to be programmed. Or perhaps its German voodoo and i just got lucky (finally) :)

Does this method work for new keys also? Why do some dealers want $$$ to reprogram a key if it only takes few seconds?

With a new key I think the RFID immobilizer chip in the new key needs to be programmed for your car.

the above procedure is reprogramming an existing fob if the remote part stops working.

I did this yesterday. Put key in ignition, turn on electricals and then hold unlock door on remote for 5 sec, and then I tapped it a few times for good measure. Turn key/car to off. Take out key and you should be good. I did this with both sets of keys and worked fine.

Tried it on both of the keys I have and it didn't work :( Held it for 5-10 seconds, and even tapped it a few times as well. I'm open for any other suggestions. I'm sure the batteries are still good on both keys because the problem started when I disconnected the battery.

Yeah, it took me a while to get it figured out as well. I think it worked when the door was open or closed when I started it. Forgot now though. And then I tried holding the key unlock and then letting go before AND after taking the key out of the ignition. Eventually, one of those combinations worked.

I know this is an old thread but I just replaced the battery in a key and was having this same issue. Here is the combo that worked for me:

    Car is already unlocked...
    open door
    get in
insert key (that has new battery)
turn key to accessory position (don't start the car)
now push in unlock button on the key remote
    hold button in 10 seconds
    let button out
press button in and out 10 times
turn key off and remove it
    get out
    enjoy your working remote

I actually replaced both key batteries at the same time and this same procedure worked for both.

I didn't change my battery but the battery died due to leaving my lights on and I jumpstarted it, ever since my remote would not work, I tried every single method on this thread and it wouldnt work.
I tried one method that worked at first (but then after testing the remote function more than twice it stopped working). Can anyone else give me a suggestion, this is becoming very frustrating!

How do I reprogram the remote control?

    1. Take the valet key, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position, just prior to starting the car.

    2. Roll down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in case there's a problem).

    3. Exit the car and close the door.

    4. With a second key, physically lock the doors (don't use a remote).

    5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press one of the buttons and the lights will flash once. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.

And why would leaving your lights on kill your battery? Don't our lights turn off automatically after a while?

In case someone else finds this; this worked when my 2008 Fob stopped working

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...i-flip-key-fob

Steps to reprogram keys to a car they are already linked to:
    1. Press and hold the unlock key on a remote
    2. Insert key in ignition and turn to on (while still holding unlock)
    3. Hold unlock while in the on position for 2 seconds
    4. Turn key to off, remove from ignition and release button.

I pulled my battery out to show a customer how to do it.. remote didn't work. Then I drove home with it and it reprogrammed itself.

So you pulled out your battery, then put it back in, and manually unlocked your car, and just drove it, when you got back the remote started working?

I've tried absolutely everything and the only method that worked for a few minutes was the last method, but then the remote wouldnt respond again. My audi dealership wants $160! Should I give it one last attempt by buying a new key remote battery and trying to resync it with the fresh battery? Do you think a brand new key remote battery would make any difference?

Audi A6 2.0 TDI (2013)- Remote Key inconsistent (intermittently not working)

    Hi All,

I just owned an used Audi A6 2.0 TDI (2013) one & i did notice the following issue with the remote key!

Every morning from 10th January, 2016 on wards i am not able to UNLOCK the car with the Remote Key . I have to manually unlock the car with key!. Then, i can still start the car with the "Start/Stop" button & drive. Once i drive to my work. Once, i reach work i am able to lock the car with the remote. Also, when i am start from my work (in evening) i can unlock again with the remote as well as lock the car when i reach home. However in the next morning, the same problem repeats!!

Can you please share your experience/expertise on how to resolve this issue?

Appreciate a lot for your support & earliest response.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Pradeep

I'm starting to wonder if the problem is with the central locking system or something else electrical after the jump start? Key remote was working absolutely fine with no problems, then my battery died from leaving the headlights on overnight, and the next day after a jump start the key remote no longer works even after all the different ways I tried to re-sync it.

This may sound stupid but are you sure the battery in your key remote is brand new/fully charged? And have you checked the voltage on your car's new battery too?

had to reprogram my keys after disconnecting the battery. i know that right be4 i disconnected the battery the fobs were working just fine, so i didn't bother to change the batteries inside of the key remotes. however, after several tries, i could not reprogram the keys. i had to resort to replacing the batteries in the keys as my last option. and sure enough the keys were reprogrammed right away. sometimes when the batteries in the keys are at a low level, i guess they can not receive the signal, therefore could not be reprogrammed.
