The tint in those pictures was 30%, but has been removed and retinted to 50% after 2 fix-it tickets from johnny law.

I guess this is why H&R comes with Super Sport which gives 1.5" front & 2" rear , vs your "sport" 1.5" f & r drop.

i would say that thats how it feels inside too. I'm 6'1" and with a slight move forward of the person in the front seats, I can sit fine, where in the B5 my head is hittin the roof haha. sitting next to my buddy's e30 3 series, the b5 looks comparable in size. the fronts are huge in my perspective! It's a heavier, bigger car by all means.

It appears to me from Anthonys ride and yours, that 255s on 20x9 works real well. Anthonys et42, and your slightly more agressive et39,41. This is a great refference for anyone putting 20s on.

Strange that the et is actually pushing the fronts out more than the rears? usually the lower offset is in the back. Is the rears really the 41, or are they the 39?

If the rubber stays 255, I wonder how much shift a 9.5 rim would move things. If the rim is as wide as the tire on the 9", maybe the bottom line is the same et works.

FYI- I'm running a higher offset in front too. After adding spacers, my setup is now 19x8.5" ET28 front and ET33 rear on 245/35/19 Nitto INVO tires. It's about as close to flush as I could get without any rubbing.

38, not 28! the 33 rear was correct. but this would mean 5mm more inwards on the front.

    clarification required i suppose.

Yes, the 33's were on back and 38's were in front, but the fronts looked sunk and the rears were rubbing every once in a while on big dips and driveways so I decided to swap them front and rear to see how it looked. Surprisingly, they were equally unaggressive all around, but not quite flush. When I changed tires this past week to Nitto INVO with more forgiving sidewalls than the Falken FK452's, I also added 5mm spacers all around. This brought the front offset to ET28 and rears to ET33. Now I'm completely happy with how they look and have absolutely NO rubbing at all. Ideally, I wish HRE would have built the wheels with non-staggered offsets of ET30 all around... scratch that, ideally HRE would have realized 8.5" is too pansy for the B8 and done at least 9" ET35 or 9.5" ET40 all around. Oh well, live and learn!

Some how HRE has sent me wheels with wrong offsets: 2 x ET46 and 2 x ET34. I was putting ET46 upfront and ET34 at the rear. After putting on coilovers, then I found out that the rear offset is too aggressive. I shaved 5mm off the hub to ET39 but the rears still rubs whenever my car go throughs bumps or something. So I switched the front and rears and put a 5mm spacers for the rears to make it ET41 with ET39 front. The rear still barely rubs but it has to some how matches the flushness of the front thus adding the 5mm spacers. The best offset I would recommend for 20x9 255 application would be ET43 for front and rear. Regarding the rim width, I don't think it affects much as long the tires stays at 255 with offset around ET43.

I don't think I follow what you're saying here. Offset and rim width are related, and you have to select an appropriate offset for the car and a given rim width. For example, let's suppose you wanted to swap your ideal 9" wide rims with ET43 offset for an 8.5" wide rim, and maintain the same 'look' with respect to the fenders. The narrower rim would be 1/4" sunken into the wheel well compared with the 9" rim if we selected the same ET43 offset. To compensate, we'd need to subtract that 1/4" (6.35mm) from the offset for ET36.65 (so ET36 or ET37 assuming whole numbers are the goal).

I definitely agree that if switching the wheels from 9" to 8.5" the wheels will sunken by .25", however, if keeping the same 255 width tires but changing the wheel offset to ET36 or ET37 will increase the chance of rubbing the fenders as the centre of the wheel and tires have been pushed outward by 6-7mm. My point to Lou is that changing from 9" to 9.5" wheel width with the same tire width and wheel offset will not cause the tire to rub the fender as the wider rim might give a very slight stretch on the sidewall but not the tread width.

Gotcha! I hadn't considered the 'stretch' effect but that makes sense.

Yes, I have come to get my head around the difference between wider rim, and offset. If the stock rim and tire is 255 et43...then moving an 1" bigger with the same tire 255 and et43 means that although the rim is 1" larger, the same size tire is centered in the same place. SO just how much wider is the tire going to extend with the same et, and same tire. We agree not very much. I read somewhere .3 of an inch wider on a 1" bigger rim, so cut that in half, we get .15" or about 3.8mm. or 3.8et less. (cut that in half again for your 9" rims we get 2et. I know that the 8.5s with 35et work, so your 9s with 37et in theory should. yet you needed 41. (off by 4mm) oh well. learning what works best more each day.

Running the same rim size and same tire size, but changing the et by 5 has more effect. Or changing the tire size on the same rim,et,. A 265 is 10mm bigger, so 5mm et equivalent.

I wonder if hre measure et differently, because 2 people now seem to have rubbing with what other rim makers seem to work with. sportecs uses 20x9 et40 lowered no probs.

I found a set of 20x9.5s in 42et. with 255s it might be majical for fittment! besides the tire sites vehicle guide guarantees the 20x9 et42 255s will fit a B8. :)

Looking at the pictures of the 2 cars, Anthonys 42s look much, much further inside the wheelwell than your 39,41s . 2 or 3 mm different. compare pictures. Makes me think your 39/41s are perhaps actually 36/38s! Could they have been measured wrong from hre?

Anthony's car looks about right for ET42. My rear tires are somehow tucked in when looking at the top as well. The area that rubs is where the rear quarter panel meets the rear bumper, that's where the rear tires starting to stick out. I believe the difference between mine and his is that my car looks lower than his (probably due to lower suspension setting and/or bigger overall diameter of 20", which pushes the tires nearer the fenders. Also, I am using Pilot Sport 2, which is fairly bulky (don't know which word to use) compared to other brands of tires with the same tired width. Different brands of tires might physically have different actual tire widths eventhough they all stated their tires are 255 in spec. So tire brands woud be another factor to consider. I will try to take few snaps over the weekend for you to make better comparision.

This is 100% true. I've found that different tires with the same specs can vary significantly in actual width. One of the primary reasons is the shape of the sidewall. For example, the sidewalls of my Falken FK452's were so square that the shop where I had them mounted and balanced refers to them as "fender fvckers" because they cause rubbing issues for so many people. The sidewalls on the Nitto INVO's I replaced them with last week are much more rounded and not anywhere near rubbing the fenders now. FYI- Toyo T1R's are notorious for having the most forgiving sidewalls for avoiding fender rubbing issues.
