Fault code: 18084 EPC

Hi,

First of all, sorry for my bad English...

I have a problem whit my S4 2000.

my EPC lamp is on and there is in the engine management a fault code there says:

18084 - EPC Warning Lamp (K132) Circuit: Electrical Malfunction
P1676 - 35-00 - -

I have brand new Instrument cluster and Engine management.
I have also borrowed a throttle body and a speeder pedal but that’s the same.

When I erase the code i can drive the car for 1 maybe 2 days and then the lamp/fault code is back.

any ideas?

now i have cheked the wiring harnes near the ECU and it looks perfect.

is there no one whit an idea?

i cant figure out what could be the problem.

but i found a new thing i cant understand....

my 2 x ETG´s show 945 degrees whit engine running and 1035 degrees whit engine off. is that normal?

Those are normal EGT readings. Why did you replace the cluster and the ECU?

actually it happend the day before i bought it. it was stolen and the things where missing when they found it. i bought it from the insurance company.
the things was installed by Audi (In Denmark that is not necessarily a good thing)

Today there has not been any trouble, and i have started it for about 50 times now.

i have to delete error codes 5-10 times before it´s gone again.

I feel your pain.

I was having codes of intermitant throttle body codes, finally replaced the wiring harness and now those codes are gone,

but have this same code that you have now.

I'm thinking it may be something with the wiring harness how it hooks to ecu.

I'm going to make sure the connections are all plugged in tight again.

But if anyone has answer to these codes, that would be great.

The ross Tech site says this about these codes:

I have two ecu's to test with. so I really dont think this is the cause. i think the wiring connection to or from epc warning lamp is the problem. At least in my case.

For you i think it has something to do with replacing cluster

I will take my cluster out today and check the wirring in that end.

i noticed that i only have 2 x o2 sensors, is that correct? a guy told me i should have 4 of them on a 2000 (2001 model).

where do i find the connectors? i cant find any loose one´s....

and another thing... why do i not get any error codes?

2 od them are black colored connectors ther other two are brown and green.

i dont have 4 on my car. on some European model there is only 2 of them.

i have today measured the signals between Throttle and ECU and between ECU and the cluster, and everything is all right.

Now I am lost.

i have made a new wire between ECU and cluster. Ecu/48 to Cluster T32a/13.

no problems so far...

I´ve had same problem/code for years, didn´t find what caused the 18084 code so I gave up ;( I did try another ECU but it didn´t help so don´t think that will help you either.

There is a small possibility you have wrong instrument cluster.. I´ve been told theres some differents between the clusters (Depending on year model or something..) even they look the same. Don´t know if thats true but you could check it out.

Did you have this problem with the old cluster instrument before you car was stolen?

Yes these codes are frustrating.

On that post a person who had both these codes together said he fixed it by replacing the throttle body.

That may sound strange, but to me it doesnt because of the problems I've had since June. Its in this post here:

Read the entire thread ^^^ and you will see how this stupid 18084 epc light could be related to the throttle body.

I'm thinking I still mayhave a faulty throttle body even though I've tried 3 used ones, but I dont know for sure.

The other thing is I know my negative post on my battery looks like it might not have a good connection, so I want to clean that up and make sure its got a good connection, I'm hoping that may help it too, but I doubt it.

I will say this about this error code. If I start the car when its cold and drive it for any distance (could be 2 miles or could be 200 miles) the light will not come on. But if I shut it off and then go to start it again with the engine still warm, the epc light will immediately come on and stayon. It doesnt affect boost but has the code listed in this post. So it seems to be affected by heat.

Anyway if anyone else was able to fix this code. please chime in.

Now I am (almost) 100% sure, it was my 4month old cluster there was the problem, I borrowed an old cluster and I have not seen the problem since, tomorrow I’m going to order a new one.

This problem is still not solved.

i have now changed:
gas pedal.
thottle body.
battery.
instrument cluster.
map sensor.
maf sensor.
ign contact.

all new OE parts.

Any ideas?

Just recently replaced my cluster from an A4 and I am having EPC light also. How did you recode your cluster?

You have to do it Whit VAG-COM/VCDS.

Mine is perfect now, it´s very nice...

now it´s time for coilovers, brakes and wheels. I need a good advise about the brakes... whats the best to buy?

today i have RS4 B5 but i want some 6/8pot, but whats the best?

my S4 is from italy and i live in denmark and the ECU is bought in denmark when the original got stolen.
