    Repainting Center Caps

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello everyone,

I thought I'd try repainting my center caps rather than replace them. Here are the results. I definitely learned a lot and overall I should of sanded the center caps more before priming and painting. I'll probably redo this cap after I get the other three done. I spent around $20 for the Duplicolor products and $17 plus shipping for the 1Z einszett Silver Spray Paint. Special thanks to Detailers Domain.

A replacement cap would of cost me $56 from ecstuning.com

    Products:

    http://www.detailersdomain.com/1Z-ei...int_p_461.html

    http://www.duplicolor.com/products/greaseWaxRemover/
    http://www.duplicolor.com/products/sandablePrimer/
    http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheelCoating/

    3m 800 Sandpaper
    3m 1000 Sandpaper.

    Steps:
    1. Dupli-color Prep spray - used liberally.
    2. Sand
    3. Dupli-color Prep spray again.
    4. Dupli-color Sandable Primer -2 coats
    5. 1Z einszett Silver Spray Paint - 3 coats
    6. Dupli-color Clear coat - 3 coats

The directions are in German. I had to guesstimate the wait times between coats.

I completed this project over the weekend with excellent results. Thanks for the writeup! It took about 1.5 hours between all of the coats and waiting for the products to dry. The only difference between this writeup and my final project was that I used Wurth Silver Paint and 150 sandpaper.

I tried a coffee cup lid which was a lot faster than painters tape. Shot them with rust oleum silver primer after sanding with 120 grit. 1 light coat 1 heavier coat. Then clear coated them. Those to go lids left no center hub over spray. Remember to close the sip hole. LolIMG_0409.jpg
